Mandy and I will be headin to Anaheim on October 19 to spend a few days at Disneyland. We are excited about this trip. Looks of new stuff to see and for the first time, I was able to get Fantasmic Balcony Dessert seats!

I was wondering, does anybody know if California Screamin will be opening anytime soon? Theres not much to do over in Disney's California Addenum, and the loss of that roller coaster would make our vist to that little park ever shorter.

I have no idea when it may reopen, but I wouldn't feel too disappointed if it's not open during your trip. Basically it's just an "ok" coaster. Good launch, but RnR is better. Does one loop that really isn't special. I guess the best thing I can say about it is that Disney didn't build it as an extreme coaster that would prohibit many from riding it.

I remember reading somewhere that they had figured out what caused the accident & were working on repair, but I don't recall an opening date... Bummer that you're coming out starting the 19th, Mike & I will be in DL the 7-9 & it's always cool to meet other DIS'ers.

Enjoy your trip, and don't worry about Screamin' - you won't be missing much (we almost never get over to that side of the park, prefering Animation, Aladdin, and Soarin')

What happend, that they had to close it? I love that ride, it's one of my fav. rides! I hope it's not closed forever or anything, I would be very sad if it is....

There was a minor accident a couple of months ago. The brakes did not engage in one of of the final brakes runs (just before the unload station) and a train colided with the train in front of it. Fortunately the trains move a very low speeds on that section of track, so the collision was not serious and there were only minor injuries. However, there is a great deal of concern over how this could have happened (I believe operator error has been ruled out) so they have shut the ride down "indefinitely" until the problem is found and fixed.

I liked California Screamin the one and only time I rode it. Granted, its not the best Coast in the world, but its still fun. When I rode it, the sound system in the car was not working. I was looking forward to trying it again with the music to see if it improved the experience. Hopefully I will get the chance.

Sarangel: Sorry to hear we will not cross paths at Disneyland. It would have been fun to meet you. Ironically, our trip was originally scheduled for the time you will be there, but we had to move it due to work conflicts.

i also love screamin' and would be bummed about it being closed when i am there in three weeks, but i am pregnant anyway. i concur, tho, with the other side of the park being better. the animation building is my favorite after soarin'. but it is a good coaster. smooth, faster enough, and long enough without being so extreme that lots of people won't ride it.

Was at DCA and DL last week 9/23/05-10/01/05. On Friday i did see one sreaming car get launched. It was stopped several times in the brake sections along the track. I only saw one man looking at the car, but no further action being taken. It didnt look like he was working (no tools) but just observing the brake areas. Maybe good news, or not.

I recall reading that the DOSH had issued its report to Disney on the Screamin' accident. Disney will now be required to correct whatever was wrong (probably the cause of the testing you saw) and then DOSH will have to re-inspect it before it can open - could take a couple of weeks or several months, depending on what needs to be fixed.

I read at another site this morning a rumor about it opening this weekend. It would make sense for them to make that the goal given the holiday crowds.

And may I say whoo-hoo if it's true, we arrive Friday morning. :cool1:
