Hi,

A Mum I've known for years from kids primary school is totally transformed, she has lost 3.5 stone and looks amazing. She has done the Lighter Life programme which is complete meal replacements for 100 days and drinking 4 litres of water. Also once each week a 2 hour meeting with the other people on the programme with you,so some kind of counselling as well.I went to meet the woman, and will be starting the programme on Thursday.

I wanted to ask if it is possible not to eat for 100 days or is in in fact easier than being obsessed with food when on a 'diet'? I know it can work my friend is an example and she has had a weight problem for the 15 years I've known her. The woman who runs it said I would lose 4 stone in 100 days, how can that not tempt me!!

Can I do it?? Has anyone heard of this programme?

......Karen...........

Hi Karen

This is the First time i have heard of this weight loss programme but as you have seen from your friend you can get results. I would give it a go, if it works i would be tempted to try it also after the baby. Last summer i did the Carol Vordaman detox for one month it was hard but i lost one stone in one month.:D

Let us know with your progress because it can be difficult at times but saying i will eat sensible and cut out on sweets doesn't alays work you need to something drastic at times.

I haven't heard of it, but I've been a yo-yo dieter ever since I had the children (didn't have a weight problem before that) and I am proof that crash diets don't work. It is true that you always end up putting more back on (over time) than you lose to start with. The proof of the pudding will be what happens to your friend over the next 12 months.

3 months is a very long time to go without eating from a willpower perspective - I don't see how it could be any easier than dieting, or how it would prevent you from being obsessed with food. And quite apart from the direct health implications of such a plan, crash dieting of any kind is said to be very bad for your health, putting a strain on all your vital organs.

Kazzie - just be careful, in case this one doesn't work for you. I've had to diet all my adult life and so far haven't found the miracle diet that suits me.

I think the reason these sorts of diets work is because you do away with real food. Does seem to be a fact that it goes back on when you start eating again though. I can never stay with a diet as i just keep giving in to all the nice food i'm not supposed to have........just no willpower. I lost over 3 stone a few years back now by having meal replacement drinks.........went back on though. I'd love to be a couple of stone lighter by september - holiday - so i'm getting very tempted to try somthing like this even thoughit will probably only be for the short term...........sad or what!:D

Thanks for your thoughts.

When I met with the group leader (who has counselled obese women for years) I asked her the questions that were concerning me.IE you always read that it isn't healthy to lose more than 2lbs a week, plus if you diet too quickly your body uses its muscle storage instead of its fat store. She had explanations for both these things.

I think most people find out about this programme with 'word of mouth'. The woman who registered as I did,her sister has lost 4.5 stone so there didn't need to be any hard sell for either of us it was, let me start now! The first week is supposed to be very hard as it is also a detox in the beginning my body will react very badly with sugar withdraewl symptons.

I have to have a medical to be able to start on Wednesday so only have Monday and Tusday to get one done, they won't let you start without one.

I'll let you know how I get on:(

Here you are, Kazzie, if you haven't seen this before:-
http://www.lighterlife.co.uk/

Can I make my own suggestions? Walk, walk, walk. Or make it fun - take up cycling...or skate! I skate everywhere...to work, to the shops. Well, I did before I broke my ankle the other week. (What a good advert I am for skating!)

I just couldn't not eat - not the diet for me I'm afraid - If it means you have to have counselling to go on the diet it must mean a pretty hard 3 months even if you achieve the goals at the end which would be great I just couldn't do it.

Good luck Karen you've got more willpower than I have.. go for it;)

I just thought I'd update you!

I paid for my medical and joined the group last Wednesday night.I started the ffod replacements on Thursday and was OK that day.But I was really ill on Thursday. My mouth was very dry and I was heving when i had my food packs.I had to have a mid-week weigh on the Thursday and DH had to drive me as I was barely able to have a conversation. The organizer said my mouth was dry because it was making me drink more fluid, and her brilliant explanationfor my nausea was as I didn't have a brilliant diet normally the 3 concentrated packs of food which were pure nutrition my body would have to get used to:(

As we reached home from there I barely made it to the bathroom,I was really sick:o

DH said thats it I'm making you some toast! I did eat it,but didn't feel better until Sunday:rolleyes:

I'm convinced there is a trace of amphetamine or some other kind of drug in the food packs but I may just be paranoid!

I cryed as I was so disgusted with myself only lasting 2 days.I would rather I could convince myself it is impossible, but my friend did manage it but I couldn't:confused:

So I have continued from there with dieting normally.I may only lose a fraction of the weight but won't be ill in the process!

Oh dear Karen :(

So sorry this wasn't a success for you, but at least you've tried it and you know it's not for you.

Good luck with the weight loss - I know how hard it is, been there done that! My suggestion, don't 'go on a diet', just eat sensibly. I think the word diet sends us all the wrong psychological signals.

Take care, Astrid x

oh kazzie, dont be "disgusted" with yourself, you tried it and it wasnt for you, i still think and agree with astrid that sensible eating and exercise is the better option, ive lost 2 and half stone this way and it is staying off, its slow but its healthy and its better for you in the long run. take care of yourself and i hope you are feeling better.:sunny:

:D Keep smiling, Kaz. What a horrible experience for you - but DO NOT feel you've let yourself down. No way, hon.

(I'm currently on a low-fat diet which seems to be working - albiet too slowly for my liking:o

The good thing is that I don't feel I'm missing out on my faves like cake cos I've discovered Sainsbury's Be Good to Yourself range:D ).

Just thought I would send some thoughts from American, where junk food is King!! I have struggled with my weight for a long time and have a lot to lose 90lbs total. Well I am down by 25 today!! i have been doing Atkins which is high protein low carbs.
It is not a diet for life, but it can work in the short term to help very overweight people. I hope to someday graduate to a mostly low fat diet, eating normal portions with plenty of exercise. The key for me is water. Drink, drink, drink. It helps the metabolism work more efficiently. Good luck, this is a 20-21st century problem, due to processed foods but I think we can beat it!! Or at least I hope so. I haven't felt this good about myself in a while.

Kazzie sending lots of {{{{HUGS}}}} When i started reading your update i was just hoping that when i got to the end i would read that you have stopped and i am glad you have. I have met you in person and you are a beautiful person. Yes it is great to lose weight so fast but no way if it is going to make you so ill.

Just eat healthy and you will be fine!!!

Love
Eda

A great big {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}}}}} to you Karen.
Different stroke for different folks - the fact that your friend found this worked for her does not mean that this diet would suit you. Don't feel that you failed in some way where she succeeded. Feeling that rough and having been so sick, your DH did the sensible thing - I don't see how you could have carried on if that's the way your body reacted.
You are probably best to just cut down on sweet and fatty foods, and have smaller portions..... please don't think you have failed..... just think you have to go about this using a different method.

BIG BIG BIG {{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}} TO YOU MATE!

Please don't use that word "disgusted" mate you're far better than that! You tried it and it wasn't that it didn't work.... it made you ill that's not failure, Karen, that's looking after yourself and a good thing you are. I do know how difficult it is for you but as Eda says you're fantastic.. so sounds like Alison may have some good tips for us all and you can still drink lots of water like kidzmom says without having what sounds like very dangerous (allegedly) meal replacements.

Big kiss and hug to you

I think it's been well and truly said here, Kaz, but don't beat yourself up. Just put it down to experience. I started (yet another) diet just over a week ago and at the moment I'm in a really strong frame of mind and it's going well. PM me if you want to set up a mini support group! :D

Karen, don't think badly of yourself - you gave it a go which is more than I would have done. So I think you were brave in the first place. Lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and good luck with the weight loss, but I'm sure you won't need luck - just a bit of determination and support from your friends on the DIS.

I haven't had time to be on DIS for a few days (it's a very long story!) and it was so lovely to read the words of support. It was more than I expected:D

Thanks for being there:Pinkbounc

So,on a sensible diet now,I can but try;)
