I haven't heard from anyone since Thursday night. I'm still waiting to hear something. I'm pretty sure he hasn't been on the computer - hasn't read or responded to any PMs or e-mails yet. I can't remember if he has a laptop or not. I asked over on the original post about him if any Ohio people had gone to see him. Has anyone?
From my own experience when I shattered my left ankle and leg (3 bones, 2 rods and 16 screws). I went into the hospital Sunday morning, they had to wait until Wednesday to do the surgery and I went home on Saturday but was restricted to bed or a wheelchair for 3 months. Absolutely no weight bearing and I was not allowed crutches only a walker to help transfer from the bed to the wheelchair.
Actually went to WDW on the Thursday after I got out of the hospital for 5 days but was using Tylenol #3 for the pain.
John called me a while ago. He is now home and is doing about as well as can be expected. It is his right leg. I told him that there were at least 2 threads and several pages worth of posts about him on the DISboards and that many of us have been anxiously awaiting to hear from him. He seemed to be in good spirits. It sounds like maybe he'll feel like turning on his laptop sometime in the next day or two. He'll be off work at least 10 days, so I'm sure he'll have plenty of time to give us all the gory details when he gets back on-line .
I had called John earlier in the day, got his VM. He called a bit earlier this evening, all at the Atlanta meet had the opportunity to say hello. As Krista said, he had just returned from the hospital, was pretty tired and under medication. It was good to hear from him.
I'm back online. But the pain meds make it hard to concentrate, so please forgive me if I don't make a lot of sense.
Thanks for all your kind emails, PMs, and for the cards and letters that I have received. They really helped keep my spirits up during the past few days. The next few days and weeks are going to be difficult as I am truly bedridden for at least 10 days and probably longer. I never realized just how difficult it is to get around using crutches.
I go back to the surgeon's office in 10 days to have the split removed and to have a cast put on my right ankle. The 6 inch long plate along with 9 screws are holding my ankle and leg together. My surgeon told me that there was the possibility that there might be ligament damage during his pre-op talk with me. And it turns out that there is ligament damage. So that's why I'll have to go back to have at least one of the screws removed before I can put any weight on my leg. And that won't happen for at least 6 weeks. I don't know when I'll be able to return to work. Right now I guess it's just time to focus on recovery.
John - our best wishes also! Sounds like you really did a job on your ankle. Make sure you take very good care of it - you don't want it to slow you down the next trip to WDW!
