BATAVIA, Ohio -- A 66-year-old man was scheduled to appear in Clermont County court on Tuesday, two days after he allegedly shot his next-door neighbor.Charles Martin was charged with murder, Cincinnati television station WLWT reported.Police said Martin shot Larry Mugrage, 15, because the teenager allegedly walked through Martin's yard.Martin was being held without bond. The two argued again Sunday, police said, and when Mugrage returned, Martin was waiting outside and shot him twice. He then called 911, officials said.
Martin: "I just killed a kid."
911 Operator: "You just killed a kid?"
Martin: "Yes, ma'am."

Listen To The Entire 911 Call Later, the operator asked Martin to explain what happened.Martin: "Kids just been giving me a bunch of (expletive), making other kids harass me in my place, tearing things up."
911 Operator: "OK, so what'd you do?"
Martin: "I shot him with a (expletive) 4-10 shotgun twice."
911 Operator: "You shot him with a shotgun? Where is he?"
Martin: "He's laying in his yard."Mugrage, a student at Glen Este High School, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, WLWT reported.Authorities said Martin has no prior criminal record, but he does have a history of complaints about neighbors allegedly damaging his property. Other teens from the neighborhood said Martin was obsessive about his lawn.Watch NBC 4 and refresh nbc4i.com for additional information.

I did hear about that story. Its horrible. One story said that the guy would sit and admire his lawn all day.

How horrible for that family! I just don't understand what goes through the minds of some people. :guilty:

What a sad life, when property is more important than people. I'm sure this man did feel harassed--my own kids make me feel harasses some days but i don't take a shotgun to them  I hope they do some psychological testing on the old man and then put him in the slammer for life.

I heard about that this morning on the BBC news, unfortunately it causes more and more weird Brits to say 'ah, well that's Americans for you' :confused3

Sorry, what I meant was it actually makes people who are already a bit prejudiced think that this is the actual norm, I didn't mean for one minute that I think it is, we have a few very strange incidents like this over here too and just confirms peoples prejudices, sorry did not mean it like it came out

:sad2: I have been living in America almost 50 years and have NEVER known of anyone to do something like this. This is NOT a common occurence--that's why it made the news! Do you not think that all Americans are as shocked as you? Most of us live in safe places where people behave themselves and the majority of us never experience a violent crime against us. I suppose that our experience is much like yours. We live in a civilized society, for the most part, populated here and there with mentally unbalanced people who do heinous things. It is NOT the norm for our elders to go picking off young people with a shotgun and in every community in America people are horrified by this act.

I nevere said it was the norm , I certainly don't think everyone in America even owns a gun! What I meant was its just the sort of shocking bizarre story that will make the news worldwide and confirm some peoples beliefs that they'd get shot anywhere, for anything, in the states. I've never met a friendlier more hospitable bunch of people than the Americans I meet on my 3 or 4 visits a year to the US but there are still many people who think its such a dangerous nation.

Saw it on the local news last night. :sad2: He sure didn't sound like he cared at all.

Ok, I know I'll get yelled at for this but...
First let me state, by no means do I agree with what this guy did...to get a shotgun and shoot a kid, something must be psychologically wrong with him. BUT....it does bring up an issue....kids these days have NO respect for other peoples property. When I was little, I would never have just cut thru people's yards..we went around the block, and ran in and out of a yard in 2 sec only if our ball went there or whatever. Even in our neighborhood, kids leave their toys in others yards, go climb trees, cut thru yards of people they dont even speak to, and its not their property. Kids really need to learn some respect.

That being said, this guy is wrong, obviously, and again, I do NOT agree with what he did. If he had such an issue, he should have called the police for the kid(s) trespessing.

Oh I defintely agree with you. I would be extraordinarily peeved at this kid too, and probably would have called the police on him. I certainly wouldn't have shot him. I would have probably had thoughts of wringing his neck though, know what I mean?

Yeah, I could see being ANNOYED, but I can't imagine being that angry. Whatever happened to complaining to the parents? My 11 yr old cut through a neighbor's yard last year and the neighbor complained to us (it's hard for the kids to tell what are common areas and what is private property around here, no boundary markers). We told my son not to walk through that way, and that was that.

This house is over by my moms house and where i grew up, This is so sad, I feel so bad for the family.

Sometimes I cut through our neighbors yard for like two seconds and then I'm on our property. Hmmm. Maybe I wont do that anymore....

Poor kid :guilty:

I understood what you meant - Im sure many of us did.

Ive heard a zillion, trillion times how "disresected" Americans are in other parts of the world, and how even countries like the UK think things like that. :guilty:

Sad story - :sad2:

Just to pile on, ;) If it were the "norm", it wouldn't have made the national and international news.

That happened not too far from where I live..(30 minutes away or so(

Anyways..I have heard that the boy was taunting the man earlier about walking in his yard.. :confused3 ..And the man threatened him and when the boy came back the man went over the edge and shot him....
Sad thing too was I beleive that the kids parents were on vacation.. And had to be notified/come home to losing their son....
