Starting to look for our trip in November. Our travel dates are 11/15 to 11/26. The cheapest flight I can find is $472 pp on Delta . Still hoping that when SW opens up its fares, they will be at least under $400 pp. Airfare is out of control lately! Just last October, we flew to Hawaii for $500 pp including taxes!! We've never had to pay more than $300 pp to get to Disney :(. Anyone having any better luck than I am??--Katie

We are in a similar situation, going Dallas to MCO Nov 16-24th. Prices have constantly been $450 for the past several months. I have a Kayak alert setup daily and they never waiver. Spirit opened their schedule a few weeks ago and the flight was $260 r/t for the first four hours and then adjusted up to $450.

We are holding out for SW as DW is my free companion so we are hoping the fares are at least comparable so that we save with the free ticket. Otherwise I'll be very upset that I had to pass on the $260 deal.

You've still got lots of time before your vacation so don't stress about it right now. Head over to www.kayak.com and set up an alert for prices on the dates you are traveling. They will send you an email daily or weekly with the latest prices. The only problem is that they do not cover SW, so you'll have to check that manually.

What kinds of fares have people gotten for Houston/MCO in the past? Right now I am seeing non-stops for $385 for the last week of September and FareCaster/Bing advises waiting.

We've never paid more than about $300, but the last time we flew to Orlando was about a year and a half ago. I'm not too thrilled with Southwest's new flight prices. Their November prices are sitting right around $400 pp . We're waiting it out. We may end up driving if they don't go down. --Katie

Prices from HOU to MCO are ridiculous with Southwest. I did happen to catch a lucky break a month ago (for an August trip) and each leg was down to $175 as opposed to $190.
Check into flying out of Austin, their prices are MUCH better...like $110 each leg. Might be worth the 2 hour drive to their airport! :thumbsup2

This neighbor to the north has been having the same trouble and we fly in August! Southwest has yet to come down to earth.

I did see a few sales on Delta so do check them. I sadly couldn't book yet when I saw the sales but I'm hopeful that something else will come up this month.

OK, now I'm just MAD @ Southwest!! Why is Austin so much cheaper??!! If anything, it's a slightly longer flight, meaning more fuel!! The flight to MCO is $120 from Austin for our dates, it's still pricey on the return, though. Now I've got something to think about. Thanks for the tip. --Katie

We got flights for Dec 9th & returning Dec 15th from DFW airport in Dallas. I checked the prices several times everyday & they dropped & we booked.

We got straight flights both ways at awesome times on American Airlines at the price of $ 241 a ticket round trip.

We flew way cheaper last year as we got flights on Expedia with bad flights times & layovers... Our cheapest flights ever. However, as the flights this year are all running about 450 each I was thrilled to get what I did.

Keep checking prices daily & you might want to check DFW. We wanted to fly Austin but their prices stayed higher & I couldn't find a straight flight.

I am in the same boat. Willing to drive to Austin or Dallas for cheaper flights. It's not my departure date, November 15th that's the problem, it's the return, November 24th. I will keep playing with it though. Jet Blue has some decent flights out of Austin as well. And for some reason Delta out of Austin seems cheaper too. Good thing my MIL lives in Brenham!

SW rates were not as bad as I had expected but flying out of Houston has become outrageous!! RT was $384.10pp... we booked Jet Blue out of Austin for about $220pp. It is an extra 2hour drive for us but it is saving us over $500!!! Our dates are 12/1 - 12/8.

Wow, I just checked SW and their prices are up today from out of Austin. Keep checking, because yesterday they were all mostly $110. I am hoping that the SW birthday sale in a few weeks will help us out!
