Anyone having access issues with Photobucket?

I have used a free Photobucket.com account for several years to embed photos and images into threads on the Disboards and other sites. Recently, I noticed all of my embedded photos and images are blocked and not appearing in my threads (see the Aulani Villas & Views thread as an example).

Photobucket.com is requiring that I switch from a free account to a P/500 account which allows for 3rd Party Hosting. According to its site, a P500 account costs $39.95 a month, which is much, much more than I am willing to spend.

Is anyone else encountering issues with embedding Photobucket photos into threads on the Disboards?

There are several options I will explore. I friend who has Photobucket's 'ad-free' account says she hasn't noticed any issues with embedding photos to some other non-Disboard sites. The ad-free account is much cheaper -- about $2.95/month versus $39.95/month for the P500 -- but I'm not sure that will solve my problem.

BTW, Bill, I notice that your post has a couple images blocked. I see only the ?-mark in a blue box. What is causing that?

It's happening on every forum I've visited lately where someone with a free Photobucket account has included photos in their posts. I think the price they are charging for third party hosting is outrageous. On some other forums I've seen people discussing this issue, with suggestions on other sites that still allow third party hosting but charge much less per month than Photobucket. I can't remember which sites were suggested. You might want to google this issue and see what you find.

My DH has an ad-free Photobucket account that he opened years ago. So far, he's not had this problem but given how little he pays per month, he figures it's just a matter of time before they target those users as well.

Don't know about the ?-mark, I don't see them. I have hosted photos on the DIS, seems to work okay.

If they had sent us a notice in advance it would have been an unpleasant surprise, but to just deactivate all of our links is poor business. I doubt we would use their site even if they offered us a lowered priced option.

yes, and I do trip reports which are now filled with gray boxes. I switched to Flickr for new posts, but it's going to take a looong time to go back and redo the earlier posts from my current report by switching everything over. Such a pain! Photobucket used to do this from time to time when a lot of people viewed your photos, but the bandwidth would reset each month, so the blank spots wouldn't last long. Not so anymore unfortunately!!

What a pain. Many of the trip reports I follow are now showing the "Please update you account...".
