Just wondering if anyone on here is having/or had a Jewish wedding?

I am Jewish & my DF is not, but we incorporating many Jewish elements into our wedding (it's the only religion we celebrate together aside from our non-religious love of Christmas LOL). We have Rabbi Robert Lefkowitz as our officiant and he seems wonderful so far :)

Just wondering if anyone else on here is planning or has planned a Jewish wedding? I'd love to hear about your plans!

Thanks!:goodvibes

minniebride,

I am jewish and my fiance is catholic. We are having Rev Tim and Rabbi Lefkowitz co-officiate, we are going to do aspects of both including the ketubah signing, circling the groom 7 times the glass breaking and a few others. We haven't come up with a exact schedule yet but definitly am excited!

I am hoping that the two officients will be able to help us nail down what we want, our PS is in october which is when we will meet rabbi lefkowitz.

Happy planning

It seems we are all together in this multi-religious ceremonies..lol
I am Jewish and disbride is christian, though not really religious. We decided to have a Jewish ceremony and will have Dr. rabbi richard Cowin as our officiant. I had a great talk with him on the phone and we want to have some religious things but not overly done. Well have the ketubah done, and the wine blessing and stepping on the glass.
Does anyone know if you have to have the chuppa for it to be a jweish ceremony?????..im not to fond of the one that disney provides.

It's so nice to find some other Jewish brides and grooms on here!!:goodvibes

We are having a Swan wedding, so I'm not sure what your choices are for chuppah's, but ours will look similar to this:

You may want to find a picture of one you like online and send it to your planner to see if they can come up with something more to your liking.

Where are you guys buying your glass to break? I've found some pretty colored ones online that come with the pouch.

I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have!

we booked him for our ceremony!!!!
about how long did it last?...did he allow you to add/subtract things to/from the traditional Jewish ceremony???

DF is Jewish, although only by heritage, not religion. I am very spiritual but not religious at all. We originally were going to have a close friend of mine (who is not a minister but did a certification on-line so she could marry us) and a rabbi perform the ceremony. The more we thought about it though we knew we didn't want anything religious and that really didn't fit us so now DF's oldest friend is also going to officiate. We are incorporating all sorts of different traditions into our wedding. We are using a chuppa at the WP and decorating it with flowers. We are going to do a Kettubah signing and breaking the glass. If you google Jewish ceremonies you will find all sorts of information. What I found was that you do not need a Rabbi to marry you and that many of the more reformed Rabbi's leave some things out of the ceremony these days such as the woman circling the husband 7 times because it is a symbol of subservience (a better choice is to have you both circle each other). I bought a glass to break at a local store but I found the same ones on www.myspiritualwedding.com. We are also doing a handfasting ceremony which is an ancient celtic tradition and I'm Irish and Scottish. I'm excited because I get to write the ceremony from start to finish in anyway that I want. Good luck.

We purchase the glass from TraditionsJewishGifts.com We ordered the blue glass seen here:

We haven't done anything with it yet. We were thinking of getting a mezuzah to put it in.

Here's a picture of our chuppah:

We weren't originally going to have one because we were supposed to be outside in the Yacht Club Gazebo but it rained and this was our back-up option. I think they did a great job at the last minute.

The ceremony wasn't long at all...about 20 - 30 minutes. We didn't take anything out. The Rabbi was really going about finding alternate translations to make sure DH was comfortable with all of the Jewish elements. We made sure our ketubah was as religion-neutral as possible and found a great wording that fit us perfectly.

This is the site where I will probably get a bunch of stuff. http://www.judaism.com/

I am hoping that disney will be able to customize the chuppah, cause I really dont like the one that they have pictured.

I love your chuppah & your dress is gorgeous!! Is that the only chuppah available through DFTW?

Thanks for the link-I think we are going to get a purple glass, since it will match our wedding colors. I'm nervous about traveling with it, because I'm guessing it's fragile. It would be just like my DF & I to break the glass before the wedding LOL!

I think the one they have pictured is only used in the Wedding Pavillion. The "Garden Gazebo" is what they use for non-Wedding Pavillion ceremonies. We had it covered with sheer panels to soften the look and cover the top.

It looks like this bare:

Hope this helps!

The florist at our planning session showed us different options for decorating the chuppa. I'm not a huge an of bunting so I didn't want a lot of that. We discussed having the bunting pulled around the poles so you don't see much of it and we're going to have purple flowers draped across the whole front of it (of course I haven't received the BEO for that yet so we'll see...) but then they will move the flowers which will be an 8 foot garland and use it to decorate our sweetheart table.

I bought the same glasses that were shown in purple. It comes in a little pouch and inside a box so you'll be fine traveling with it.
