We're replacing our refrigerator, range, and microwave and thinking about buying Whirlpool Gold brand. My husband likes Whirlpool because it's made in the USA.

If you have this brand, what is your experience? Thanks in advance. :)

:goodvibes I worked for Whirlpool in Benton Harbor MI. One thing to understand is no matter what brand you ultimately decide they can all fail. Whirlpool offers a 1 year warranty with all of their products including the Gold line. I would say an extended warranty would be worth it that starts AFTER the manufacters warranty ends =) I own all Whirlpool appliances and have been very happy with them =) We remodeled our home and purchased all Whirlpool for our kitchen. Maytag is a Premium brand of Whirlpool. If I were picking between Whirlpool Gold and Maytag I would pick Maytag =) for the premium tag :cloud9:

Had Maytag and bought new fridge, stove, washer, dryer and bought Whirlpool Gold last spring. I am very happy. I sold my old sets and everyone is happy with the used ones. I have extended warranties on all my large appliances. I once had a fridge that had condensor problems and if I had to have paid for the repair bill it would have been more than the warranty that I paid for both fridge and stove. The second repair was even more beneficial.

You can't go wrong with either.

we just bought a whirlpool gold fridge bottom drawer freezer 21.9 cu feet in black. We really like it, bought at Sears online. Our's died and we bought this and had it delivered within a week. So far so good :)

We had a Whirlpool Gold microwave, or should I say two that died within a little over a year of having each one. It seemed like there was a defect in this particular model and after Whirlpool was very unhelpful, we found that many other people who had the same microwaves expereinced the same problems. Needless to say, we finally chose a different brand to replace them with and have been happy ever since.

On the flip side, we have had a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher for almost 9 years and have been very happy with it. I set the dishwasher off every day with many days running it 2 sometimes even 3 times per day. Just now it is starting to have some issues about the top dishes not getting clean enough. We probably will end up replacing it soon since it's gotten more than it's use and wouldn't hesitate to replace it with another Whirlpool Gold model.

We have a 4+ year old Whirlpool Gold frig. We have had issues with the icemaker clogging and as a couple of months ago we have been unable to get ice from the ice door. It makes ice,but we have to open the freezer to get it. Just recently another poster was also having a similar issue.

We have a Whirlpool Gold washer and dryer. We bought them in early 2000, and have had to have them repaired once or twice. I have to say that I would be more than happy to purchase the brand again!!

So funny! We just bought this exact one, but Lowes online .. to be delivered this week ....

I just replaced our hand me down whirlpool dryer and it was 27 years old . I replaced it with a whirlpool.

we gutted our kitchen last year and bought Whirlpool Gold cooktop(gas), counter depth fridge, double-oven and downdraft system. I am very happy with them but didn't buy thier dishwasher because we couldn't get a stainless steel interior. The double oven is the greatest, the convection top oven cuts baking time by a third.

We have a Maytag Fridge that is almost 15 years old and we just bought a new Maytag Dishwasher after the Maytag Dishwasher we had for 25 years finally kicked the bucket. Love Maytag!

Now we have a Kenmore washer/dryer set. Always a problem with them. Kenmore is not a realiable brand. Don't get Kenmore.

As far as I've understood, not all Whirlpool and Maytag appliances are made in USA anymore. Hubby used to be accounting supervisor at Furniture Store, so he got to know the reps and he had to complete audits, so he found out a lot about appliances and furniture.

We have Whirlpool Gold fridge and stove, and the fridge was not reliable, so we replaced with Kenmore (made by Maytag), and it has been ok, but shelves have been an issue (a few cracks here and there), and ice machine. Whirlpool Gold stove is still kicking, but it is showing wear as well, but they are both almost 13 years old, so not bad. The newer fridge is only 4 years old, and we are not that happy with it (Kenmore Elite made by Whirlpool or Maytag, can't remember?), as we have small issues with wear and tear (we are very gentle on our stuff), and ice/water machine issues as well.

RE: Kenmore. Kenmore is made by other name-brand companies, just like Costco's Kirkland products. Here at Sears in Canada, we can always find out who has made that particular model, and then we match it up by the paperwork inside, or place of manufacturer on the item.

Many of our Kenmore fridges here are made by Whirlpool or Maytag, but again, not all of Whirlpool or Maytag are made in USA now, as they have outsourced certain models to China, just like many other companies have. Best people to talk to are the repair people - they know where everything is made and sourced, as they have to order parts, etc.

Good luck to OP! Tiger

The Whirlpool products purchased here in the USA and all of their brands Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, IKEA, Inglis, Estate... theres more are made HERE in the USA. There are a few appliances that a part or 2 come from Whirlpools suppliers out of the USA but the appliances themselves are made in the USA. Whirlpool is sold all over the world and their are WP manufacturers in the countries that sell them. Whirlpool prides itself on being 'American Made' unlike our "Kinda Made in America Cars"... :goodvibes I do not believe their are any other appliance companies that are made here in America. Kenmore at one point was being made by WP for Sears however LG took that over. I do not work for WP any longer due to the long drive =) But coming from behind the scenes I would still stand behind them any day :goodvibes

We bought whirlpool gold appliances when we moved here 9 years ago, The fridge and stove have been great, but we had ALOT of problems with the dishwasher. We replaced it with a Maytag. Which I LOVE. It is definitely a better quality and I am very happy with it

My maytag washer just died. We've had issues with it for years now. When I called about getting it fixed, they told me it would $1000 for parts, not including labor. We found aftermarket bearings--this is all that was wrong, they wanted to sell me a new drum, rotator arm and something else for the $1000. There wasn't anything wrong with the other things, just the bearings, which they don't sell. We got an additional 3 years out of it, bearings going again but that was not the ultimate cause of it's death. I would not consider either Maytag/Whirlpool because of everything I had to deal with on the washer. I live not too far away from Benton Harbor also, would have loved to have bought something to keep my "neighbors" in a job.

The dryer on the other hand works great. No issues.

At least 90% of the product line is Made in USA, but they also make in Germany, Mexico and China (dryers, microwaves and a few others) according to hubby, and he is correct based on the Made in USA website.

Whirlpool does make the most products in USA, but still a few that aren't, just as I mentioned. Quality of Jenn-Air has gone down lots too - dad is a chef, and some bad quality imported parts in his counter top grill, and it now sits defunct in his kitchen, as it's been fixed by warranty a bunch of times, and is now not working as it's out of warranty. He has had many Jenn-Air products, and based on the quality of the last few years, he won't buy anymore. The sales rep and repairman confirmed that they are having issues with circuit boards and other very important parts being made out of the USA.

Here in Canada, some of our Kenmore appliances are still Whirlpool, but maybe in USA they have switched to LG exclusively?

I just mentioned it because I know that when shopping for appliances, the research can be a bit overwhelming.

My mom has a really nice stainless steel Whirlpool Gold fridge, double doors, ice maker, freezer on the bottom. It is about a year old and has needed to be fixed THREE TIMES!
