I currently have Nextel and I'm getting so fed up with them. Dropped calls, battery life is just horrible. Also, upgrading to a newer phone is insane. The prices of their phones are horrible and your not getting a whole lot of technology on them to be worth the cost.

I was checking into Verizon and really love the LG enV phone. Do your left over minutes roll over each month or how does it work with Verizon?

Verizon does not have roll over minutes. I used to have them -- just switched to Cingular. Their plans are ok, pretty much the usual. I had the predecessor to the enV a couple of years ago - the V. Decent phone, and I liked the full keyboard. The costs of all the extras are what kill me though -- extra for text messaging, extra for internet, etc. I was supposed to have an unlimited data plan on my phone, and when DH and I went to Florida we were checking our email on the phone. Well, came home and had an almost $200 bill. They charged me for all that email checking. DH got it straightened out, but Verizon made way to many mistakes with my bill to keep me happy.

We have had Verizon Wireless for a little over 2 years and it's fine. I've only had a handful of dropped calls in the last 2 years, and I know right where they were. The coverage is ALOT better than I had with Sprint before. The price is a little higher, but it's worth it to me. The only place I have not had service was in the mountains in Arkansas. We regularly drive from Philly to Canton or Philly to Buffalo and have no problems.

As far as rollover minutes go, there are none. You have free verizon to verizon wireless minutes. This works great for us because everyone we know has verizon. We just got the LG8300, it was buy one for $50 get one free after mail in rebate. There is almost always a free one you can pick, but we liked this one a little better. I don't know much about the enV, but because it's new and probably popular, it won't be too cheap. I would stay away from the chocolates though, I've seen some bad reviews online.

Oh, and I think you can avoid the activation fee by signing up online. HTH

I have Nextel for work and Verizon for my personal phone. There is no comparisson. Verizon is much much better. I have had it about 4 years. Sometimes you have to stay on top of customer service to get things done, they have messed up my billing a few times. But each time they have fixed it. I have also had Cingular. I am a firm believer in Verizon Wireless!

Your best bet is to talk to friends and family that live or work in the areas that you will be using your phones. We had Verizon for about 16 years (used to be Bell Atlantic Mobile) but the service just kept getting worse. We were told we lived in a low lying area and that their reception in that area was just not good. So we talked with everyone we knew and ended up going with Sprint - love the phones - have not had any problems since August (knock on wood!)

I just switched to Verizon after having Nextel for the past 5 years. I too was tired of dropped calls and the horrible battery life. Plus they didn't have any pink phones:lmao: So far I'm happy with Verizon, had a few issues with my statement and took several calls to get it cleared up but they ended up eating some of the charges I did owe just for my troubles. Their customer service is much nicer then Nextels in general.

I have had Verizon since moving to OH roughly 5 yrs ago and have had very few issues. I love that I have no roaming in 95% of US, No long distance, new every 2 thing where they give you a 50 -100 credit towards new phone every 2 years. I use my phone a lot while at WDW and have had no issues what so ever with it, I've had few rooms I had to step outside to get better signal but other than that can't complain. My friend also has verizon and says same thing as me. The free calls to other VZW customers is great too.
Anytime I've had to call Customer service they have been friendly and helpful.

Just a FYI you can go to Circuit City and get verizon too and sometimes it pays to check out specials online vs CC vs Verizon store all these options are direct verizon not agents.

I had nextel, then verizon, hated them both, now have cingular, phones r great, good reception, rollover minutes, we share a family plan between my husband, daughter and me. Free nights after 7 , free weekends and free roam within the us and puerto rico. I`m really happy now for 3 years, I was reluctant when at&t merged, but theyve been wonderful now for at least 2 years! HTH

I have had Verizon for more years then I can recall. They have great coverage-dropped calls are few and far between. I have crisscrossed the country many times and never had coverage issues.

There customer service is not the best and you have to keep on top of them to get issues resolved. Once you learn how to read their bill you will be fine!

I have Verizon as my work phone and Cingular as my personal phone. By FAR Cingular is much better where I live (Indianapolis). I constantly have dropped calls with Verizon that I don't have with my Cingular :confused3

Cingular has rollover and free cingular to cingular. I use my phones ALL the time and have never went over my minutes with Cingular.

Hope that helps!:thumbsup2

I dont know that there is a "best" cell phone company. We have had several different ones and so far Verizon has been the worst for us. We definatley have way less dropped calls with them but their customer service and constant bill errors make it not worth it for us. My husbands phone stopped working so I called and they said we were eligible for an early upgrade if we signed another 2 year service. So we drove an hour to the verizon store and they tell us were not eligible for an upgrade. HUH? They let us call customer service from their store and then are told we arent eligible, the first customer service person made a mistake. We were furious. So on the way home, my husband calls again to explain our frustration and guess what......were eligible for a upgrade. Verizon customer service really has no clue whats their talking about. We also had months of problems over the rebates for the phones when we first signed up. I had to fax them a copy of the agreement(they already have it so why did I have to fax it?) and it took nearly 6 months to get it fixed. We will be switching services the minute our contract expires!

We have had Verizon Wireless for the past 4 years and we love it. Only one dropped call has happend since we signed up. We are on the family plan for about $90 (with taxes and fees ) we get 2 phones and like 900 min. or something to share. PLUS INCALLING. Which we LOVE. B/c DH and I are lame, so we really only talk to e/o. So that dosen't count. My parents and sister have it as well. So it works great for us. I like too that we can add lines for only 9.99 extra a month. Great for emergency phones for the kids!

We have had Verizon for 3 years and are very happy with their service. Plus I love my Pink Razr!!!

BTW, we HATED Sprint. Terrible coverage areas and terrible customer service!!!

We just renewed with Sprint last month. In comparing both services and prices/plans, I found a major difference was 7 pm nights & weekends, as opposed to 9 pm I think) with Verizon. Also, Verizon has free in network calling, but extra minutes were .45/each. We were able to choose the fair & flexible plan with Sprint, that prices (double check-may have just changed this week) their overage on a tiered basis. Sprint also has free in network calling, for people who have 40.+ plans. We are entitled to 150 towards a new phone every 22 months, plus we got a 70. debit card (each) to renew. Both services (receptionwise) are pretty good here in NY, and in WDW. One very important thing to check out is if Verizon or Sprint offers a discount for the company you work for. Verizon offered us an employee discount that would have made the total cost for our plans less than Sprint, for more minutes. Then DH noticed in his PBA newsletter that Sprint would give him a 25% discount, which would make the total slightly less than Verizon. I have read about Verizon overbilling more than once, so we stuck with Sprint. You can't beat the free minutes starting at 7 pm! I use my cell to call friends in FL, so this is a big plus! FWIW, I did have an issue in the past where I thought Sprint was double billing my taxes, but it turned out they were billing for the wrong state.

Perfect timing for this thread, I am thinking about switching from Alltel to Verizon.

I had Nextel. Service Stunk!!. I had no sservice for most of my drive to work. Switched to Verizon in Novemebr. Best switch I ever made. Since November I had 4 dropped calls and I have coverage most everywhere I go. People are pleasant to deal with and through my work I have a 20% discount :thumbsup2

and the real bonus for me was I emailed myself my own ringtone. I now hear Hallowishes when my phone rings

I have Verizon for my personal cell phone, and Nextel for work. I would never actually pay for Nextel myself. The coverage around here is lousy, we go from 5 bars to none without actually moving and drop calls all the time. Probably 3/4 of my commute I have no service. The phones don't seem to be great, and the battery life is non-existant. Trying to get anything fixed is a lesson in patience.

Verizon does have pretty bad customer service, but if you keep after them and check to see that they've taken care of what they said they would, you'll do OK. Their coverage isn't perfect either, but much better than Nextel. The plans tend to be cheaper (although I don't use text messaging and all that stuff, which I hear adds up)

I love Verizon, but you should ask others in your area to see how their reception is.

I have had verizon for the past 4-5 years. I LOVE them. I have used my phone all over the country with no problems. I have almost never had a 'dropped' call.
