Anyone have trouble getting PS's at MGM?

DH and I are leaving for WDW eight weeks from tomorrow. Earlier this week, I called to set up all the PS's for our 10 night trip. I was frustrated on a couple of counts though.

I was told the latest the 50's Primetime is open for dinner is 6 pm, so our PS is for that time. Similar situation with Mama Melrose's, but they only had 4:30 pm.

I know the park is open until 9 pm or later during our stay.

I wanted to know if anyone else has had the same experience? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get our PS's for later times?

Thanks!!!

I've seen other posts about this same thing in the last few weeks. It seems like they are trying to fill up the early spots before they open the later ones. I would go ahead and take the early spot, then try calling back every week or two and see if the later slots have opened up yet.

That happened to me for our May trip. I called back about 20 days out and was able to get a 6:40 for Mama Melrose. I am not sure when they open the later time slots.

This seems to be the trend at MGM lately. It happened to us last summer when we were trying for the FDP at Mama Melrose. We tried back about 3 weeks before our trip and had our choice of later times...about every 10 minute slot was available then.
We are currently booked at MM for 4:30 in July, but we plan to keep trying back for later.
Keep trying & good luck! :D

6:00 was the latest ps we could get for Prime Time for our August trip. I hope I will be able to change it. We are doing the afternoon tea at the GF at 2:00 that same day, so 6:00 will be to early for dinner :(

I have no idea why they're doing this. When BWI itinerary planners emailed our PSs, our Fantasmic Dinner Package at the Brown Derby was scheduled for 4:00 (we requested 6:30). It was noted on our itinerary that this was the latest time available. They're going to check for a later time in the next few days. This only makes more of pain for guests and concierge alike.

I think this is done to prevent guests from being disappointed. Later times at both MK and MGM haven't been opening up until much closer to actual dining dates for some months now....I think WDW waits until park hours are finalized.

I think it is easier on guest and WDW dining alike to open up later dining times than to call guests who have booked late PS only to have to tell them that the hours are shorter than first hoped for.

This may be the case in some months, but during the summer, hours are always extended. It's pretty much a given that MGM will be open past 6:30 in July. If they are unsure of the hours, they should at least take reservations up to a normal time for the summer, i.e. 8:00. I could understand if a guest was requesting a priority seating for 9:00 or 10:00. With WDW, though, who knows what the reasoning is. I think this is the first year this has happened.

I agree that it has only been happening for a year or so ...more or less. But our last trips were in Nov. 03 and March 04 (spring break of course so peak season). Can't remember if it was the case last June?
