Getting ready for our trip home in a week! Yeah! :bounce:

Anyone have the link to the jacuzzi cleaning instructions? I believe it's on a Hilton Head DVC member's website?

Gotta clean that jacuzzi properly! I got 2 little ones that "drink" the water in the tub! :( It's bad enough that they swallow bath water but at least it's their own. Just the thought of other people's bath water residue...  Yuck!!!

:bounce: Just bumping this up-I am in the same predicament!!! I would love to know how to clean the thing so I wouldn't have to worry!!!

Thanks for posting this!!

Tommy Towery has a great HH site and a fun <a href="http://www.members.tripod.com/~ttowery/jacuzzi_101.htm">"Jacuzzi 101"</a> instruction page.

Enjoy!

DH does a great job cleaning these out. He fills the tub with water, adds bleach, and runs it through the system to disinfect the lines. Then he runs clean HOT water through to rinse out the bleach. HTH

Thanks Doc & Hook! Just what I needed.

Question: Anyone know if the automatic dishwashing detergent provided by DVC would work? BTW, do they provide enough of the stuff for the dishwasher to last the week?

They use to only give you one or two packets of dishwasher detergent, but the last couple times that we stayed at OKW they had a small box of Cascade in the units. It was plenty for the week. I'm sure that you could call and get more if you run out.

The following are Kohler's recommendations for cleaning a whirlpool tub, from their web site:

What is the best way to clean the system of a KOHLER whirlpool?
Whirlpool bath systems should be cleaned at least twice a month. Adjust the jets so there is no air induction. Fill the tub with hot water to a level above the highest jets. (Caution: don't start the whirlpool without making sure there is water above the highest jets. Running a whirlpool without water will damage the pump seals causing the pump to fail or leak.) Add to the water two teaspoons of low-foaming dishwasher detergent such as Calgonite or Cascade, and four ounces of household bleach, such as Clorox. Run the unit for 10-15 minutes, and drain the tub. Next, fill the tub with cold water to 2-3" above the highest jets, run the unit another 5-10 minutes, then drain. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.

Just for the sake of copyright protection  , here is the link where that came from:

I just fill the tub with hot water and bleach and turn the jets on for about 15 minutes or so..........

Then fill it will clean water and put the jets on...........drain..........fill it with water and enjoy!!!!!!!!!

I buy Scrub Free, squirt in on and wipe it off.
This is NOT a Jacuzzi it is a Vita Bath, and we have the same one at home (ours however is larger) and all we ever use is Scrub Free. Never had a problem with it.

Scrub free is for cleaning the outside surface. The other things people listed are to clean out the insides of the whirlpool jets.
We have a Kohler whirlpool and clean it according to the Kohler instructions JonHM posted. The bleach is to disinfect and the detergent is to dissolve everything that you don't want to think about that is in the jets. Even though automatic dishwashing soap is low foam, it still makes some bubbles. If you're getting a lot of bubbles, you either put in too much dishwasher soap or you had some of the vents open (adding air and bubbles).

Is bleach provided at the villas or do you bring it from home?

Bring your own.

Sue,
Vita Bath does not recommend this except in extream cases, they do, however sell a product that does the same thing. When we want to clean the plastic lines we use Baking soda, it removes all the things you don't want to know about. :)

Uh... I have a technical question.... Doesn't the cleaning staff clean out the whirlpool after each guest departs?

Do I want to know the answer?

(We rented a 2BR unit at HHI last month for one day--our first stay at a DVC property)
