I know this is an old thread, but I just found it, and felt compelled to post.
Another displaced New Yorker who grew up there in the 70s, with memories of watching Channels 5, 9, and 11 after school. Will be happy to wax on Magic Garden, Romper Room, and kids yelling 'pix! pix! pix! to shoot at spaceships at another time. Not to mention how Carvel's Santa Claus and Fudgey the Whale were from the same mold.
Anyway, just returned from the Poconos after ten years (spent honeymoon there). Stayed at Fernwood (much more than a motel these days), but ten years ago, spent a week at Poconos Garden Lodge, and reveled in the cheesiness of all three resorts (Stricklands and BEAUTIFUL Mount Airy Lodge). Nothing was falling around us then, but could see the potential for rapid dilapidation. Went back to see if the rumors about the properties were true, and in fact, they were.

Mount Airy Lodge is completely gone, except for the golf course, the backhoes and the construction vehicles. Pocono Gardens Lodge is still standing, but completely boarded up, overgrown, and covered in graffiti. The end of an era - but the jingle will forever ring in my head.
