I grew up in Philly and the surrounding surburbs, but I don't remember that commercial!

I do remember the billing of "the honeymoon capital of the world" or some such nonsense!

Anyone remember the Fernwood Motel in the Poconos?

Neither do I, but I found this online! :lmao:

The Shuffleboard Tournament is a Weekly Event, with a Beautiful Trophy Going to the Winner. So the card says, and we’ve no reason to doubt them.

The rest of the card is written in classic Winchell style: “Bushkill Drive - route 209 - Bushkill, Penna. A Modern Vacation Resort - Lodge Accommodations - Orchestra and Entertainment Nightly - Motion Pictures - Cocktail Lounge - Private Lake - Solarium.”

All that, yet they show a picture of shuffleboard.
:rotfl2:

I remember Fernwood VERY well!!! I had to be about 19 years old and my best friend and I decided to go spend the weekend there skiing. Well let me put it this way...the hotel walls were VERY thin and my friend and I got an ear full and a lesson on pineapple rings :rotfl2:

Who remembers "Hatchy Milatchy" with Miss Judy?????
Absolutely! I watched her every morning. My favorite part was the sketch paper...she'd roll the roller over it and it would magically come to life.

I had my junior prom at mount airy lodge.

tricia.
We had our senior class outing at Mount Airy Lodge. Our school had the outings there for many many years. Our class was so bad they kicked us out and our school wasn't allowed to go back there.

Ok, who can remember this:

"Come on a zoom, zoom, zoom a zoom"

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

AAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAH
It is stuck in my head ...
"All you have to bring is your love of ev-rey-thing (held an extra half-count), bee-utiful Mount (prepare for the high note) AIRY (pronounced Hairy) Lodge ...!!!"

I was born in 1980 and they hit the prime kid brainwashing age among me and my childhood friends. EVERY LAST ONE of us can sing the jingle, and we remember other vignettes from the ads on top of what's already been listed ... remember the nightclub, which looked like the mauve-burgandy interior from early episodes of Soul Train? And chicks were wearing off-the-shoulder gold lame and geometric plastic earrings?

We were out in the Poconos about a year ago, and we detoured off Route 80 to hunt down the remnants of Mount Airy Lodge (we also drove past Caesar's real slow)

YES.

I also remember commercials for the Westchester County Fair. Anyone else recall this? Sung in auctioneer style: "EVERY-BODY EVERY-WHERE at the great westchester coun-tee fair EVERY-BODY EVERY-WHERE at the westchester coun-tee fair.
RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS!
NON-STOP ACTION!
[garbled], animals, fun things too
There's so much that you can do!"

OMG!

I remember those commercials! I remember Mount Airy!

Our high school Senior trips were to there-until the year they hung the swans in a drunken stupor. We were not allowed back! (not that that was a bad thing!)

Mt Airy must have targeted NY for it's ads. I grew up in South Jersey, fairly close to the Poconos, and never heard that jingle.

On a sick and funny note.... my MIL stayed at Caesars in the Poconos in a room with one of the champagne glasses. She and her BF filled it up with water and bubbles. She got in and he took her pictures while she was posing. Funny thing was...ok HILARIOUS thing was...that when they got back and were showing us the pictures, we saw that his nakkie reflection was caught by the mirrors.

It wasn't a pretty sight.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Nothin' like "Beautiful Mt Airy Lodge" to stir up the memories!!!!!!!

Blondy 76- cheesy but fun. You Bet!!! I'll admit if I had thought of it soon enough with some extra cash set aside it would have been a HOOT to
have gathered friends together , just book a week or two and have a blast!!
Play along with how the commercial wants you to think of it, oh what
memories could have been!

Hentob- T'was Joya's Fun- School- just to clarify, oh what a memory from the past! Seymore the puppet?

Robinrs- glad to return a wonderful "vision" to your present memory.

Short Stop- Westchester County ,eh? Tis' where I presently reside.

Brittwoman- an ear full and a lesson on pineapple rings???? I'll assume a
full explanation would require an adult only filter. Long Islander ?
Born and raised on the Island myself.

Silly Me- Would you be able to share the stories of why your class got booted
or are they too serious to have a laugh over?

Caradana- mauve burgundy interior, off the shoulder gold lame and geometric
earrings???? YESYESYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl:
THOSE are the things that helped add up to the overall "message" of the commercial," THROW AWAY YOUR TASTE, YOU'VE GOT MONEY YOU CAN
WASTE,BEAUTIFUL MT AIRY LODGE"
NYC? Westchester County am I.
"Rides and Attractions, non stop action, at the Greater Westchester County
Fair" Yep ,remember it well. C'mon down everybody, Westchester is just a BIG FARMLAND ANYWAY, why no different than Kentucky, and what better
place to demonstrate that than 'ol broken down Yonkers Raceway, so close
to downhome country life you'll think you're back on the farm!!!!!!

Cher Crazy - Targeted NY? Yes that was the target market ,a lot of Mahattanites looked to it for weekend getaway.
OH MY, by the way on photograph incident!!! I imagine the negative has been destroyed by now?

I completely forgot about those Mt Airy Lodge commercials until I read the first post and all of a sudden the tune came to me and now Im sitting here singing beautiful mt. airy lodge.
I remember wonderama and Joyas fun school(my fav. part was when you would hear the galloping sound which meant Mr mix up would ride through and mix up the puzzle pieces on the felt board)

Well , seems I'm not the only alley cat around here eh, Allicat?

Yes, Mr Mixup! My favorite part of the show too!!

Pix! Pix! Pix! Pix!

And the...
Playworld, A world of toys
Fun for girls and fun for boys
Playworld, where prices go
so low low low low LOW!

Psst...I stayed at Penn Hills back in '91, and I remember their stupid jingle
"Penn Hills, you're never lonely at Penn Hills"

My OLDER sister made it onto Wonderama. Came home with prizes--boy was I jealous.

My DD's can sing "Kids Are People, Too" even though being midwesterners of the wrong generation they've never seen the show.

I think it was Bob McAllister for my generation--but who was Sonny Fox (My dad says Funny Sox)? Dad says he hosted the show. Was it just before my time, or is dad's memory not what it should be....

LOL - My sister's in-law's own a house in Scot Run that overlooks Mt. Airy .... they have this ginmorous picture window that looks out onto the valley, the lodge and all the facilities - and every single person that walks into the house, as soon as they walk into the house, sings "beautiful Mt. Airy Lodge...." lol

Our kids even starting singing it as toddlers - and had absolutely no idea what or why they would sing it. I think they thought it some kind of weird salutation.

While I no longer sing it out loud - it definately plays thru my head.

A few kids were caught with beer. Yes, they snuck beer on the buses and to the outing. A few were caught doing the "wild thing". Well, what did they expect? :confused3 You take a bunch of hormonal teenagers and give them all rooms and let them run amok?? We had a blast though!
