Anyone have simulator ride tips (i.e., for Star Tours)?

When we took our Disney cruise, the first night we had extremely rough seas. One of our servers told us that, on days like that, they keep a bowl of cut up sour green apples in the kitchen for everyone to munch on. He claimed the apples did a great job of keeping them from getting sea sick.

I get bad motion sickness as well but I wear seabands on the rides and they definitely help decrease it. It's just 2 little bands you wear on your wrists, so you don't have to take any pills and you can leave them on all day if you'd like.

There's also a candy called ginger chews that I've found helps me a lot with nausea.

Chewing gum -- brilliant! I can actually see how that would help. Looks like we'll be in WDW at the same time -- maybe we can be sick on Star Tours together. :rotfl:

It's funny, the DBF and I were just discussing this last night! I get very car sick, but not very motion sick on rides. However, a very close friend we've traveled to Disney with gets unbearable motion sickness and she has a few things she always brings in case. She uses ginger Altoid mints, as they calm her stomach like Ginger Ale would, but since that isn't always available everywhere like in line, etc, the mints really help. I've tasted them and they really aren't as minty as they are ginger-y, if that makes sense! I say that since I know with my stomach mint sometimes makes the issues worse (basically, my stomach is nearly paralyzed, and the mint helps to relax the muslces in the esophagus, which might help some, but makes me feel worse - long story!). I myself don't like the ginger Altoids - or any ginger pills - as they make me feel more sickly and sometimes repeat on me.

She does carry Dramamine on her, but doesn't always use it since it makes her really sleepy. Like PPs have mentioned, I've heard Bonine is great! I always take a pack of peanut butter crackers or cinnamon gum as well, since gum works really quickly to settle my stomach. I too will recommend closing your eyes if it gets to be too much - in a car that makes it worse for me, but on rides it makes it a lot easier! I also make sure I stuff a small plastic bag in my purse, or keep one from something I've purchased, juuuuuust in case the worst happens and a meal makes an unexpected reappearance into the world! :rolleyes1

:thumbsup2 I'll send you a PM!

The thing about taking dramamine/bonine is that I'm one of those people that typically reacts differently to the drowsy/non-drowsy thing. For example, while regular Benadryl makes most people drowsy, it actually wires me, so I don't want to take any chances with drugs.

Also, I won't (neither will DH) get physically ill, we'll just feel kinda nauseous and headachy. I might buy SeaBands (but they're expensive!) or go the gum/mints route. I do think one of the keys is to stay focused and not look around -- and if all else fails, just close your eyes. I'm also just going to keep a positive, mind-over-matter attitude about it. Just don't want to feel wonky the rest of the day since we'll probably ride it fairly early.
