It's funny, the DBF and I were just discussing this last night! I get very car sick, but not very motion sick on rides. However, a very close friend we've traveled to Disney with gets unbearable motion sickness and she has a few things she always brings in case. She uses ginger Altoid mints, as they calm her stomach like Ginger Ale would, but since that isn't always available everywhere like in line, etc, the mints really help. I've tasted them and they really aren't as minty as they are ginger-y, if that makes sense! I say that since I know with my stomach mint sometimes makes the issues worse (basically, my stomach is nearly paralyzed, and the mint helps to relax the muslces in the esophagus, which might help some, but makes me feel worse - long story!). I myself don't like the ginger Altoids - or any ginger pills - as they make me feel more sickly and sometimes repeat on me.
She does carry Dramamine on her, but doesn't always use it since it makes her really sleepy. Like PPs have mentioned, I've heard Bonine is great! I always take a pack of peanut butter crackers or cinnamon gum as well, since gum works really quickly to settle my stomach. I too will recommend closing your eyes if it gets to be too much - in a car that makes it worse for me, but on rides it makes it a lot easier! I also make sure I stuff a small plastic bag in my purse, or keep one from something I've purchased,
juuuuuust in case the worst happens and a meal makes an unexpected reappearance into the world!
