Anyone have non-traditional medical insurance coverage that complies with ACA?

I got my 2017 Insurance letter over the weekend, letting me know my insurance is going up another $125 a month starting in January.

I'm starting to look in to other ways to have medical coverage for upcoming 2017. I'm tired of paying so much money (more than a mortgage payment) for medical insurance and still having to pay high deductible and not even using it. Anyone have ACA compliant medical coverage? I'm looking at Medi-share type websites now. What have been your experiences with this type of coverage? Let me know the good, the bad & the ugly. Also, what do you get in the way of proof for your annual tax return? Is it the same form my insurance company sends me/IRS proof of months I was covered? Have you run in to any problems with the IRS as far as coverage not being from the traditional insurance companies.

Let me know any info you have. Thanks

It's not really considered a traditional insurance. You are self pay at time of doctor services. You get a bill that shows the "real" doctor/ test charge & the self pay amount that you are responsible for. Then you turn that in whenever filing a claim.

Each incident is a separate claim & has I think a 500. Deductible.

The lowest level I think is 48 a month but really is only good for major things. The gold level which I'm on I'm thinking is about 150. A month. I think a family is about $450. A month.

I just filed my first claim for a stress test & that type stuff & it was totally paid for. Took about 4 months to get the check but they paid well on my claim.

You can also get what's called brothers keeper which adds alittle each month to your bill but them if you had a major illness the coverage is unlimited.

Even though it's not traditional insurance it does work as insurance & it is accepted as such. You just self pay as you go.

You do have to be a Christian to qualify for this. I know lots that are on it & it's way better than any insurance I've ever had in the past.

I know one family that uses Medi Share and they really like it. I also know another family that used to use it before one family member got a job with cheaper insurance, and they liked it as well.

Do you know what forms of payment are accepted? I would assume an automatic withdrawal from checking/savings. Can you mail ii in? Go online and pay it yourself every month? I pay pretty much all my bills by going online and paying them. I'm not a fan of automatic withdrawals from my bank account...I like doing it myself & keeping an eye out & make sure no mistakes are made with my money...lol. Can you put a credit card on file to pay monthly? I'd like to get points/travel benefits from my credit card if I could for each month I pay the premium.

Thanks for any info you can provide. Currently waiting to hear from them. I requested evening phone call so I'm waiting. :snail:

Is the 48 a month less than the penalty? I can not afford any insurance but paying more in tax is a killer as well. Thank you.

I'm not really sure what the penalty is. I know it's different depending on what you make.
We got a paper in the mail last week saying our penalty without coverage would be over 5000!! That's just for 2 of us! ( stupid law! So many people can't afford to waste their $ on insurance that isn't worth anything anyway)
So the 48. a month ( that's per person, I think) would for sure be way cheaper than that!
