I have wanted shutters on the windows in the foyer and dining room since we've lived here. (8 years) DH has put me off for that long. I've had it! He swears there's NO WAY he can install them because of the type of trim we have. I think he's BS-ing me and he just doesn't want to put them in.

He also has a problem with the faux wood shutters cause they're made of plastic and he thinks they look cheap. Well, the real wood ones will cost around $300 per window! YIKES!!! :scared1:

Does anyone have these in their house? Faux wood, or real wood? Were they easy to install, or did you have the pros install them? I only want them about 2/3 up the window with a regular valance on the top of the window.

My Mom has white plantation shutters throughout her home. They look absolutely stunning, but they cost a fortune! She had them professionally installed, but if you know someone who is very handy you could save a lot on installation.
They are real wood, I've never seen the fake wood kind?

We've had them. My husband is the farthest thing from a handyman, but he managed them just fine.

We have 'em, too. Real wood; DH installed them, in fact, he replaced the old windows and as he did he one replaced all the old trim, (which had been painted) with new wood. All the new trim; and all the interior shutters are stained. Some rooms have a swag..others have nothing.. one room has like this grapevine; berry things hanging over.. (sounds weird, but looks nice).

I have them! I took the old wood ones out and replaced them with Faux ones just last month. I did it myslef, they have an easy install for them with slats that you use, you use as many as you need and they worked great. Took me no time to get them in. Here are the before and after pics of the room, you can see the old and new ones. I got them at Lowes about 50 bucks per window. I love having them on the windows! We are replacing the windows in the spring that is why I didnt paint the window itself.

we have faux ones too, in our bathroom. my DH hung them, he is handy, but they are pretty simple if you follow the directions, they make it easy enough. I love them, but sometimes hard to clean-anyone have ideas for that so I don't wreck them??

I used the brush attachment on my vacuum.

the ones I have come right off! Each panel just slips off the pin and can be washed right in the sink.

I have the polywood faux shutters....I LOVE them!! We learned to love shutters when we lived in AZ...they insulate your home SOO much better, and faux wood shutters insulate 11 times better than wood.

They are gorgeous, and expensive. In every home we have had, we just purchased them one at a time until we got the whole house done. If you look, you can find someone who will sell them (installation included) for about $18 per sq. foot.

We had wood ones when I was a teen, my mom installed them herself. She did everything herself, and I remember plenty of DIY disasters, I don't recall there being a crisis with the shutters so it must have went fairly smoothly, LOL.

I have the white Plantation shutters. They are some type of fake stuff--which was actually more expensive than the wood. I had them custom made and professionally installed as all my windows are odd sizes. It cost me about $1600 to do three large windows.

We are going to do Plantation shutters on three of our windows and we are going with the faux wood. We live in Florida and I'm not sure the sun and heat would be kind to real wood ones.

We had faux wood 2 inch slat blinds in Michigan and just loved them.

I have heard they are pretty easy to install and that they have inside mount and outside mount.

Good luck with your project.
