Anyone have experience with staying in a port more than one night?

When the ship stays in the same port for more than one night, how does it work? Is there a specified time that you have to be back on the ship at night? I would imagine they pull up the gangway by a certain time even though the ship is not pulling out of port.

Well, we stayed in Cabo overnight once (on DCL). And we stayed in San Francisco overnight (Princess, though).

In SF you could come and go as you wished, just like a hotel. No "pulling up the gangway".

In Cabo, the tenders did close down at night (too dangerous). So you did have a specific time you had to be on the tender, if you wanted to be onboard the ship that night.

So that would seemingly indicate that if docked it's in hotel mode (come and go as you wish) and if tendered there's a curfew, for lack of a better word.

We stayed overnight on DCL in Reykjavik Iceland. There was no time you had to be back on at night- come and go as you please. We took a very late private tour and many others weren't back until 10-11pm since it stayed light until after midnight. Come and go as you please

We stayed overnight in San Francisco. While we could have gotten off of the ship at night, we opted to eat dinner on the ship. It was cool to wake up in the same port and have another day to tour.

Pretty much. When we were in Cabo, we were told if we didn't make the last tender at night, we'd have to wait until the tenders started running again in the morning to reboard the ship.

Problem with that is, you run the risk of the water/weather being too bad for the tenders to run the second day, and then it's on you to get back home.

Yes did it three times in San Francisco in Barcelona and Hawaii. All three if I remember correctly you could come and go as you please.

A couple of years ago we were in St. Petersburg for two nights on DCL's Northern European Capitals Cruise. The first day we could be in that city until 11:30 pm. The ship opened up again at 12 am. Perhaps they had to clean the gangplank, who knows. We came back after our excursions the first day, had dinner on the ship, went back on shore to see Swan Lake, got back by 11pm or so and hit the sack. Next day we did Catherine's Palace and off we sailed. Now, Russia is a special case when it comes to documents needed when leaving the ship on your own.

Thanks everyone, was just wondering as we will have 2 nights in Bermuda and it will be the first time I have been in the same port for more than one night.

Do it!! Did an overnight in Bermuda with RCL and LOVED IT. So badly want to do one of the DCL ones next fall but Grammy wants to go over the holidays and she's paying, sooo... (I know, I lead a terrible, horrible life).

We adored being able to wander around and not have to stress about "ok we have 3 hours before we have to be back... 2 hours now..." We did Horseshoe Bay Beach and hubby got tired and sunburned and chafed - I was so happy to be able to be like, yeah, let's go back to the ship and you can shower and we'll grab a snack, instead of being stressed about "we have SIX hours here and you're going to WASTE 2 of them going back on the boat??"

Anthem of the Seas docked and there are several huge piers, so you shouldn't have to worry about tenders.

We are relocating to New Jersey hopefully soon, so I will be keeping a close eye on last minute prices and crossing my fingers we can grab a deal with DCL or RCL to do Bermuda again :surfweb:
