We're thinking of doing the acid stain concrete finish on the concrete floor under our old carpet -- just until we can finish putting hard wood floors in the rest of the house.

Has anyone had stained concrete floors put in? Anyone do it yourself?

Just starting to think about this and would love to hear about someone else's experience with these.

Thanks!

Lowes and Home Depot have a lot of books and different products you can use. We want to stain our driveway....but haven't gotten that far yet. You can look up a LOT on Youtube as well. We did texture our concrete in our pool house with a kit from Lowes....very simple and I really like the outcome.

My husband owns a concrete contracting company and specializes in decorative concrete (colored, stamped, etc.). Just be sure you know what you are doing before you attempt it, he spends ALOT of time repairing and replacing concrete that a homeowner thought they could do themselves or another inexperienced contractor botched up. Also realize when you select colors that all concrete suppliers have concrete that varies in colors and shades and depending on the base color of the concrete you are adding color additive to, the outcome will vary. With some colors this does not make a huge difference but with anything in the red shade for example, it may mean the difference between pink, red, or orange shades. Also understand it is just in the nature of concrete to crack, so that is always a possibility. Otherwise...I think decorative concrete is beautiful!

We have acid stained concrete in the office building where I work. It was built in 2008 and some of the color is coming up in high traffic areas even though it is waxed once a month. Also, the colors vary some throughout the building because they had 4 concrete pours and each batch of concrete took the acid differently. Certain parts of the building looks good but some doesn't. You have to be careful and not slide anything on it or it scratched it. Too much trouble for me!
