we are off this coming year the week coming into Easter (4/10-4/14) and with my older son in 2nd grade, I'd like to keep the missed school days to a minimum if possible. Right now, fares for travel during that time are at least $300/pp. I know that since it's holiday week, fares will probably not drop but has anyone had experience with that time of year? What have you noticed as you get closer? Particularly with airlines like SW that don't open up their dates until much later.

We would rather fly out of Newark, but will do LGA and JFK. Could even do Philly if the fares were good enough.

Thanks.

Fares are not traditionally great for that time period. I have only been to WDW once during spring break (partly because of the lack of good fares then) and that was in 2000. However, we used Amtrak (for the first time and probably the last, unless we use the AutoTrain) because they had a great 2-for-1 deal at that time. Our trip to Orlando was long, but uneventful. Our trip home was very long, the coaches were overcrowded and the noise level was deafening well into the wee hours. So I can’t recommend that.

Since many folks seem to travel during this period, my feeling is that the air fares will not be very reasonable. Especially if you’re in a northern city……everyone who can wants to head south! I can’t recall seeing any true sales for spring break airfares, but we got a great rate of $133/rt for our February trip this year. It worked for us, but I know folks plan to get away when their children are off. It won’t hurt to keep checking, but I would be surprised to see any truly awesome fares.

We went over Spring break this year, flew out from Chgo. and I think we got around $230. Which isn't bad, for that time.
Just keep looking and checking the airlines site directly. If you see something resonable, just go ahead and book. Alot of airlines will give you a credit if your flight fares go lower.
We are going next week, after we found fares from Chgo on TED for $37 one-way. Who could pass that up? :flower:

We always fly out of Newark usually take a vacation around Easter. Last year I was able to get 235 rt which was ok for that busy week. With Jet Blue beginning to fly out of Newark maybe it will be better next Easter. We got 140 rt for December, I was happy with that.

I keep a check on airfare usine www.itasoftware.com it is great...
Last Easter Albany to MCO was 308 including tax rt. This price had dropped so I got a credit for another flight(wanted a refund after paying a 100 dollar pp penality...so not thrilled with United) So please check rescheduling costs. I would try Jet Blue !
FYI right now you can get $ 232rt NS on USAirways

I booked early . . .our Spring break is April 17 - 21.

I played around with the dates and ended up paying $176/pp/rt . . .
April 12th - April 18th from BDL to MCO. Those same flights are now over $300/pp/rt

Kids will be missing 2 days of school, (11th and 7th grade) Friday is a Holiday.

Paid $276/pp/rt last year during the same time.

Keep looking and be flexible with the dates.
