My neighbors are taking a carnival cruise in July and supposed to be stopping at Key West...they got a phone call this morning saying they couldn't stop there becuase the dock was being renovated and they were going someplace else...anyone know the date they are closing it....

We were supposed to dock at the military base several years ago, but they were already occupied, so we docked at the main dock. I'll bet renovation has reduced the number of ships that can be in port at the same time, but not stopped all ships from docking.

We're going on the June 5th cruise and from what I'm reading lately, I don't think I would mind being sent somewhere else!

I suppose you could cross your fingers and hope that if they can't dock in Key West that you get an extra day in Castaway Cay or something.

hughiedeweylouie: Interested to know what you have been reading about Key West lately and why you wouldn't mind not stopping there.

We are travelling soon and looking forward to Key West. Is there something we should know? :chat: :listen:

Thanks for any info.

In Novemeber they do not let ships in due to a boat show so the ship goes to CC at the beginning and end of the trip. After our recent trip CC twice over KW once is a good deal.

Norm and I will be leaving here on April 28th - noone that I have spoke to in Key West has heard anything except dredging is suppose to be happening around Mallory Square - as soon as I get there, I will know more - as soon as I get home, will post what is going on - even the local paper doesn't have anything on it soooooooo don't know.

Key West is a little wild (it's a port town, after all) but a lot of fun, in my opinion.

We were on Western Magic 31JAN04 and loved Key West! We have two small children and we saw nothing inappropriate at all.....we walked off the ship and over to the aquarium. We saw an adorable dog with purple sunglasses and even a dog, cat and mouse all asleep piled on top of one another. The weather was gorgeous and watching the ship dock was very interesting. We even had dolphins escorting us into the harbour. It was a great day and I would do it again. We have even said we would "do the drive" sometime when our kids are older and we could afford to stay at that gorgeous hotel along the pier. There is nothing wrong with Key West in our opinion.

The past couple of days most of the Key West info has made it sound a little seedy and more of an adult party atmosphere. I have two children 12 and 9 does anyone have suggestions? We are so into the countdown to the Cruise. The two excursions we've chosen are the dolphin swim(Cozumel) and beach horseback riding (Grand Caymans) if that tells you what we like to do. My daughter loves to shop, my son hates it.:sunny:

We are doing the key west trolley and then hopefully gon to the aquarium and butterfly place. My 4 year old isn't going to notice anything r rated and if she does she wont know what it is anyway and the almost 15 year old will get a good chuckle out of it so I am not to worried at this point.

There a lot of gay people in Key West, a lot of bars and T-shirt shops, but I don't find it seedy. I find it unique, with a particular sense of fun and attitude.

Definitely do the Trolley - it gives you lots of good info on the history of Key West, which I found very interesting. We also like the aquarium, which is small but features local fish, and the Hemingway House, where Hemingway wrote some of his most famous books.

During the day, Key West is just like any other port town. There are sights to see and fun stuff to do. At night things can get a rowdy, but you'll be on the ship sailing to your next destination, so I don't see any problem. We were there two years ago and I would love to go back again someday.

Thanks for the positive replies..we're looking forward to Key West!! Cathie & The Gang:wave2:

I definitely agree with this! We were there with our little kids and saw nothing obviously objectionable during the day and even into early evening (except for a couple of kind of racy t-shirts in shop windows). There were lots of people in the bars but none of the bar activity was spilling out onto the street at all. Everything was pleasant, even though our visit happened to coincide with a visit from an aircraft carrier (adding 6000 port-happy sailors to the mix!). We took the conch train tour--lots of fun; maybe a little too long--and went to the Aquarium (kids loved that!) and ate at the tastiest little Cuban place. We found Key West to be fun and unique and just fine for our family during the day; we're looking forward to going back again sometime!

Is it important to book the Old Town Trolley tour though Disney before? Will it sell out? I'm just not sure !00% we're doing it yet.

There's absolutely no reason to book the trolley or the Conch Tour Train through Disney. Do it yourself at your leisure.

and much less expensive - and that is a proven fact.
