DH had vasectomy in late November. I now have a suspicion that it didn't work! Will confirm tonight after a trip to the drugstore....

Of COURSE he never went back to be retested, and of COURSE I just went along with his best judgment. Oops...

Anyone know of any similar stories?

I was told by the doctor who performed mine, that not going back to get the three follow up tests and getting the all clear sign, is very common. It's a big cause of the problem you may be facing. I understand why men don't do the follow up, it's embarrassing to drop off the sample, IMO, and inconvientent. Good luck on whatever the outcome may be.

A co-worker had one and his wife still got pregnant with their 5th. So after he was born, they both got fixed to be sure this time. So far it has worked.:rotfl:

Lots. All because they did not retest.

Congratulations!

Happened to my friend recently. Turned out her husband needed another V because the first one didn't take. :confused3

Ughh, maybe I shouldnt keep reading this thread. I was worried last month, even thought I am on the pill. So I was pushing for Dh to go down to the doc to get that taken care of. I have horrid luck but just assumed it really didnt happen that often that people still come up pregos.

Though the circumstances were different, one friend's hubby went for a vacsectomy and ended up going for it before the appointment for the recheck. Low and behold, he goes for the recheck and come back with an all clear and she holds up a positive reading. Her OBGYN said "You should have used a rainjacket until you got the all clear.

Another friend who has 5 girls, decided the day prior to her DH V to see if God meant for her to have a #6. Yep, another girl!

I have not heard of anyone getting preggo if the guy did the folow-up tests.

However, if I get pregnate again the UPS man might be blamed so I was sure that DH went to the folow-up:lmao:

I guess the reason I never pushed for retesting was that it took us 4 years, and some medical help to have DS 3, so even though we were careful for a few months after his procedure, I figured there was no way I could get pregnant anyway....

My bad! ;)

If I am pregnant, then I will be excited, but DH, not so much. However, he has no one to blame but himself! :goodvibes

Nope. I did the retest though but, the worst part of that was it took 3 retests till I got the "All Clear" and the young woman I had to give the samples to was a daughter of one of my employees.

I know 3 personally. One, they had two boys, didn't do the check for all clear, had twin boys!

Two, they had two healthy kids and got the big V when the youngest was 4. When he was 12 she turned up Pregnant!!! Turns out that it can rechannel or something like that. Its definitely her DHs kid, looks exactly like him.

Third, I don't know the particulars, but she has told me girl #4 came after her DH had his Big V and now he's had a 2nd one!

Good luck to you!
Katy

Too funny! I guess I have an airtight defense-- all of our delivery people are women! Well... maybe not the pizza guy!

We were not as careful as we should have been after #1 because it took such a long time to get PG, and I needed medication. Lo and behold, #2 was born 6 days before #1's first birthday. We have been careful ever since.

had a friend in college, we were both around 20 when her mom found out that dad's vasectomy from 14 years earlier was'nt as effective as they thought (funny thing was she was convinced that the symptoms were menopause cause she was in her early 40's:rotfl2: ). what a joy that little one was to them:thumbsup2

i just saw something on tv the other day about a home test for this very purpose that's supposed to be available otc pretty soon. docs figure that maybe the guys who won't come back for the re-check in person might at least give the 'family home version' a try.

I have had 2 friends that DH's had their Vs by a regular physician...one has had problems since and the other one has #3 now. Not saying that they don't know what they are doing...just suggesting that you see a Urologist to make sure they do it correctly. Both of these men needed a second time around- it was simply "snipped" right there in the doc office chair.

MY DH had the procedure done- by simple outpatient surgery, and has had one round of 0% tested- NEGATIVE. I hope this means that we are safe- probably would love to have the second test to be sure, but so far we still safe. :thumbsup2

Don't know of anyone who got pregnant after the V but do know a couple who did after a tubal. YIKES!
DH had a vasectomy 9 1/2 years ago and so far so good. He did go for all of the follow-ups. When he had his procedure they clipped a section out of the tubes then burned the ends. He was told that the burning should keep the tubes from reconnecting like is possible with just clipping. Oh boy, do I hope they are right! I love my girls but I don't want to start all over again.
Hope you get the results you want.

I too know someone after a tubal, today their girls are 19, 18, 2 needless to say she was in shock, but I think their daughters were more in shock to know mom & dad were still getting cozy.:lmao:
