Specifically Metaform, I guess it's the generic of Glucophage? Any advice is news To me. I have no idea about this whole thing!!!

Try a search. Someone asked this a few weeks ago.

Hope that helps!

I had PCOS and after a glucose test it was determined that I had mild insulin resistance. I had been trying to get pregnant for several years and was not having regular cycles. I had undergone quite a bit of infertility treatment until the doctor tested me for this (he thought he had already tested for it).

I am not an expert, but from what I can remember, insulin resistance causes an imbalance of hormones in your system. Too much testosterone is produced which throws your cycles all off kilter.

Metformin (I think that's what it is called) is the generic form of Glucophage and it is used to treat type II diabetes. It is supposed to deal with the insulin problem. I had my blood test on January 1, 1999, got the results January 6th, started Glucophage on January 7 and found out I was pregnant on January 28 - without any other fertility treatment. (I get teary-eyed just thinking about it). I delivered a premie at 34 weeks on September 2, 1999 who is now a healthy, happy four year old. (I don't think her prematurity had anything to do with the Glucophage).

One thing I remember is that Glucophage did a number on my digestive system (cramping, loose stools). I lost 13 lbs. in three weeks. I also continued taking the Glucophage during the first several weeks of my pregnancy.

There were a lot of websites on PCOS even back when I was researching it. I bet you will find a lot of information there.

Good luck to you. PM me if I can help you.
