Anyone have an AKL pool view....

and were actually able to see some animals? We wanted Savannah view, but there was only standard and pool view available. We took the pool view.

I know nothing about this resort. Should I request a certain area?

I guess with no savannah view available now, the odds of it being available at check in are pretty slim.

We were just there last weekend and we could see the flamingos from our pool view room, but that was it. It is a wonderful resort - have fun!

I've stayed at AKL 3 times, once pool view, twice savannah. I wouldn't hesitate to stay pool-view again. It was an amazing view. There are plenty of opportunities and places to view the animals so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Have a great time, AKL is a wonderful resort.

We have stayed pool view a couple of times and we love it, almost better than savannah view.

We like the pool view, very pleasent. Personally I wouldn't pay the extra $ for a savannah. You can sit and look at the animals anywhere. There's alot of little sitting areas with rocking chairs, just look for them. If we're in the room, it's usually to rest and sleep. I caught alot of Giraffe views while in line for the waterslide at the pool. that's cool. Swimmimg with the animals!
Pool view will be great.

If your heart is set on Savannah view, I would check Disney website often for any openings. If you find one, call immediately and switch your ressie. This worked for me last year to get the resort I wanted, which was originally booked solid.

It looks to me that if you had a pool view room near the end of the Giraffe Trail, you could see the flamingoes and possibly some of the other animals that come to feed near the hot tub - would need to be on at least on 3rd floor, I would guess to see those animals. You will love it anyway!

Roofs of the restaurants, a big tree, and across to the other rooms - many who hung their towels over the rail We ended up not using our balcony.
Next time we will save the money and go standard. Plenty of places to visit the animals or maybe we will get magically upgraded like last time to Savanna.

We had a pool view upgrade and asked to be moved after the 1st night because it was so noisy. My DD is a lite sleeper and the screeming kids kept us away until really late. We ended up in a room without a view, but at least we got our sleep. We could go out and see the animals anytime. Sitting in the rockers was fun.

HopperFan, that's clearly a ROOF view! I'm curious -- did you complain to the front desk and ask to be moved/have price reduced? Or was it possible to see a sliver of water if you did some type of acrobatics from the balcony?

I had that happen once! I was put in a room next to Mara, and all we could see were people's feet and heads (due to bushes up to the balcony) and all the gum, cig butts etc under the bushes. We asked to be moved and were told that we were not paying for a pool-VIEW (YES WE WERE!!!!!) but rather for "access" to the pool ... doesn't everyone who stays there have access to the pool??? I had to talk to several different people before I got moved to a Savannah room; I would have rather had the pool view.

To the OP: we were on the third floor just above the health club, and could see the flamingos and also other animals on the Savannah behind them (from a distance). It was perfect!!
