Anyone have acid reflux?

My wife has had some major stomach troubles. It put her in the hospital last Oct for two days. At that time it was diagnosed (sp?) as esophageal (sp?) spasms. Tried some various meds with no luck. The problem always flared during her period.

Two weeks ago her primary care tested her for H. Pylori (bacteria which causes ulcers) and she was positive (via a blood test). Today was her last day of triple therapy and she couldn't feel better.

For anyone that continues to get the run-around on stomach problems I'd get tested for H. Pylori...

good luck

My doctor suspects GERD with me. I have been feeling like throwing up for the past 2 years (since gall bladder was removed). I just kept telling myself that it was all in my head, making up all kinds of excuses for not feeling well. It got to the point that I just wanted to be home since I felt so sick. So I went to the doctor. I'm having an upper gi done next week. How disgusting is that drink? Did any of you get sick on it?
I'm a major soda drinking. Guess I need to cut that out. :guilty:
how do you feel now?

How did you treat it? Are you OK now?

I had horrible acid reflux for most of my adult life. I eventually had the Nissen Fundoplication surgery which completely alleviated my issues. It was a last resort, and had a somewhat difficult recovery, but was worth it.

{{sigh}} That's a very tough procedure to get approved for here. Anything short of significant Barrett's Esophagus (pre-cancerous changes to the esophageal lining caused by acid erosion) and they just want to treat with PPI's forever. I just had my annual "badger the Gastro guy for surgery" appointment and still no luck. I do think it would be life-altering.

I had had acid reflux for a year and had the same symptoms as you. I used to have bloating so bad I thought my stomach couldn’t stretch any more.

it’s been really REALLY hard but I have cut out coffee, chocolate, garlic, onions. tomatoes and all other acidic food. I miss pizza and coffee so much but I’m mostly pain free and it’s been so nice not sleeping on 4 pillows.

I did go on Pantoprazole for a few months but don’t take it anymore as my diet has been enough to control it.

Have tried taking certain foods out of your diet. I was getting reflux a lot. I systematically tested not eating different things to see if had a sensitivity and I foundthat anything with wheat or gluten caused the acid. As long as I stay away from those, I'm fine. Whenever I eat them...ouch!! Bananas have the same effect on me.
I have pain when I eat bananas too. I never related it to acid reflux. So interesting

I did. My doc put me on meds that made me feel even more terrible. So I took myself off those meds and changed my diet and increased my exercise. Now, I don't have it anymore.

Figure out what foods trigger it for you.

Or you could have a parasite.

I had the lump in throat and reflux/fullness/shortness of breath forever. Turns out my hiatal hernia had gotten huge. Got the surgery, and it made a huge difference. Sleep on your left side!

Did you trying cutting out wheat/gluten?

My dad has to get his esophagus stretched occasionally.

Never thought of that. I’m learning new info in this thread
Sorry. Definitely didn’t mean to offend. I’ve had GERD for decades so sympathize.

I had to chuckle, though, at the question “how are you feeling now?” to a thread someone posted 15 years ago! I’m guessing they didn’t notice the date. Hopefully the answer would be “better”!

Go see an gastroenterologist and get the endoscopy, no x-ray barium baloney. They put you out, it is flipping easy.
I also had a colonoscopy done. I recommend you do both at the same time, esp. since you had gallbladder issues.
I had a sessile polyp removed from my colon (surprise!). Basically no cancer, but now I have to have one every 3 years because I am now at high risk for colon cancer.
I am 41.

I had NEVER EVER had heartburn until my gallbladder was removed. I found out it can be an issue becuase you have a constant bile drip into your intestines or something like that. Not sure really why, but it can be a "side effect".
Yep. I have Bile Acid problems all the time since gallbladder removed 8 years ago.
Gastro Dr says big percentage of people this happens to. With no gallbladder, the Bile is now dumped into your Gastro system. I hate having my gallbladder out Have had problems I didn’t have before.
For Bile Acid I’ve taken both prescription Sucralfate OR Colestyamine. Both have helped.

Appreciate this topic is being discussed as I’m suffering with stomach problems (bloating, pain, constant gurgling etc etc) galore while I should be enjoying snowbirding in Fl. Just made appt with Gastro Dr for the week I get back end of March. So frustrated.

I’m sorry so many others have stomach problems. Really affects your life.
