I have to send my "letter" to the school next week for our educational trip to WDW at the end of Sept. Does anyone have a sample I could use? I wanted to have lots of details about how this trip would be educational. I already have the "journal" pages and "epcot" pages from mouseforless.com.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Tina,
If you go back on mouseforless.com and go to the download page for kids, you will find a sample of the school excuse letter. There is a lot of detail in that. You may find this is what you are looking for. Good Luck :)

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for. I printed out the journal pages around 8 months ago and didn't even think to go back to see if anything new was added! Maybe next time I should look first and ask questions later - ha.
Thanks again - less than 4 wks. to go!!

LOL...that's ok.. :) this is why we all use these boards. Everyone is great about sharing information.

I just want to be devil's advocate here before someone else gets snippy with you about this, but is the teacher the type that will find this charming?

DD got "the mean teacher" which is kid for strict. She is really a nice lady who does not give alot of slack and holds people responsible for thier decisions. I could just tell that she would not be a fan of the "Disney is educational" argument, so I took another approach which I will copy below.

When I spoke to her after giving her the letter, she told me that she admired my honesty and was glad I didn't try to make the "educational" argument.

She said: "Though it might well be educational in some respects, I am glad you told me it was best for your family, and I can respect that. I also hope you have fun!"

Here is what I wrote:

Dear Mrs. Jones:

I am writing to inform you of our intention to take Jenny out of school from September 11th though the 15th for a family vacation. Under normal circumstances I would never even consider taking a vacation during the school year with a child her age. I absolutely believe that Jenny’s education is of utmost importance to her upbringing.

We had fully intended to take our vacation this summer, and had even paid for the trip for early August. My husband works in Regional Operations for a retailer, and had to postpone the vacation due to unexpected work responsibilities. Since he works in retail we could not move the trip to a more traditional vacation time like Thanksgiving or Christmas.

We could only take the vacation in September, so we figured it would be best to take Jenny out earlier in the year so less new information would be missed.

Please know that my husband and I will continue to work hard with Jenny to maximize her schooling experience, and rest assured, I have very high expectations of her with regard to her education.

Sincerely,
Katy Johnson

I also received a bad reception to the letter on mouseforless from my children's school. The principal laughed and told me that that letter is total overkill. :confused3

:lmao: It is.

oh good, I was hoping I wasn't the only one who found that letter a little bit silly and over the top. :rotfl:

I plan on writing my own very similar to Microcell's. Merely stating the reasons why I could not take the vacation over the summer period noting my husband had recently started a job and could not take off in August due to the fact he was the newest person and couldn't get his pick of weeks. And the exact same thing, that taking a student out in September should result in less problems catching up later. Personally, I would think it'd be harder to take a student out in the winter/spring months when they might be more in depth with a subject.

I was fortunate last year my school didn't give me a hard time when he missed the first day of kindergarten. Last year we started a couple of days before Labor Day.
