I just want to be devil's advocate here before someone else gets snippy with you about this, but is the teacher the type that will find this charming?
DD got "the mean teacher" which is kid for strict. She is really a nice lady who does not give alot of slack and holds people responsible for thier decisions. I could just tell that she would not be a fan of the "Disney is educational" argument, so I took another approach which I will copy below.
When I spoke to her after giving her the letter, she told me that she admired my honesty and was glad I didn't try to make the "educational" argument.
She said: "Though it might well be educational in some respects, I am glad you told me it was best for your family, and I can respect that. I also hope you have fun!"

Dear Mrs. Jones:
I am writing to inform you of our intention to take Jenny out of school from September 11th though the 15th for a family vacation. Under normal circumstances I would never even consider taking a vacation during the school year with a child her age. I absolutely believe that Jennys education is of utmost importance to her upbringing.
We had fully intended to take our vacation this summer, and had even paid for the trip for early August. My husband works in Regional Operations for a retailer, and had to postpone the vacation due to unexpected work responsibilities. Since he works in retail we could not move the trip to a more traditional vacation time like Thanksgiving or Christmas.
We could only take the vacation in September, so we figured it would be best to take Jenny out earlier in the year so less new information would be missed.
Please know that my husband and I will continue to work hard with Jenny to maximize her schooling experience, and rest assured, I have very high expectations of her with regard to her education.
Sincerely,
Katy Johnson
