Anyone have a remedy for poison ivy?

Diluted bleach as @dja14 describes is plausible, but pouring bleach directly out of the bottle seems likely to do more harm than good.

I'll stick with the store bought remedies, anyway.

come on be a man pour some bleach on it, then rub some dirt on it

Prednisone. It's got lots of side effects though, but they may be better than the rash - especially if you've got blisters or think they're likely to appear.

My mom was on this stuff after she worked in her yard and didn't exactly know what western poison oak looked like.

Fels-Naptha to wash with then zanfel. If that doesn't work then prednisone. Also use the Fels-Naprha to wash any clothing and shoes and equipment that came in contact with the poison ivy. The oil sticks like crazy and you can keep exposing yourself to it over and over.

I have years of poison ivy experience. We live in the woods and I grew up in the woods. I get it so bad my eyes swell shut. I try not to resort to the prednisone because the side effects can be bad from that.

I'll have to keep these in mind. Having never had poison ivy before, I got it twice this past summer (from yard work in the same part of the yard). I ended up at a walk-in clinic and they gave me a steroid cream for it. The second time I was exposed, I started the cream as soon as I recognized it and washed up a lot with the blue Dawn dish soap (something I had heard helps to dry it up). Second exposed cleared quicker.

Blue Dawn Dish detergent to shower with to remove oils and then witch hazel to control itching.

TECHNu is great for temporary relief. I also found the spray-on benedryl a lot more effective than the cream. But what really helped was a topical steroid from the doctor.
