Anyone have a Maine Coon cat?

vetrik....thanks for sharing those pics!!! He is adorable!! A little grayer than my Katie, but other than that...almost identical.

I hate to break it to you....but, I doubt he is "part" Maine Coon....that cat is Maine Coon through and through!!!

I have 2 Maine Coon brothers, Meeko and Dexter. Both are beautiful, large, have hairy ears and a lot of hair between their toes. They are extremely intelligent and playful. Meeko is more like a dog than a cat. He is always where we are. Dexter is more catlike. Dexter's head is usually wet from drinking out of the faucet. Neither cat likes closed doors and will pound on the bathroom door until we let them in. Their meow is more like a chirp. One is very vocal and the other isn't.

Besides being beautiful they have the best personality if any cat I've ever had. I've had cats my whole life and these are my first Coonies.

we were pretty sure one of our cats was Maine Coon - we confirmed it one day at a cat show. We were lucky enough to get to speak with a breeder.

The one thing we were concerned about was that she wasn't affectionate (we weren't her original owners and we were worried she had been neglected or abused). The breeder told us that it isn't unusual for Maine Coons to be more reserved while they were young and to warm up to you around 2 or 3 yrs. This is exactly what happened!!! Now we kid her and joke "who are you and what did you do with our cat?".

Oh wow, you've given me hope about my Moxie. She has the biggest attitude of any of our cats. She just doesn't seem to like us except when she's in heat (which is exactly why she hasn't been fixed yet) But when she's in heat, she is the sweetest, most affectionate kitty around. She loves drinking out of the bathtub faucet as well

But....she is the smallest cat. We found her out in our driveway 2 years ago and she hasn't gotten any bigger. She eats like a mountain lion though!

I would definitely give her another year! Ours did not care for attention at all - (she was already spayed when we got her). Now she is very affectionate - on her own terms and less so than our shorthair though. We can now get her to play a bit and she will even initiate the affection and ask for it at times.
