Hi guys,
I am serving bbq pork sandwiches and homemade italian beef sandwiches for my boys 5th bdy party and I thought coleslaw would go good with both.
Does anyone have a really good tried and true coleslaw recipe.

thanks
Fran

Mine is not a true 'recipe' but it is good and it is easy. I buy a bag of prepackaged slaw and then a jar of premade slaw dressing from Marzettis--in the dressings aisle-althought the cold aisle jarred stuff is good too. Mix and let sit and voila! Easy and good.

1 package of Coleslaw
1/2 cup Sliced Almonds-Toasted
1 pkg. Ichiban Chow Mein (soup)
1/4 cup Sesame Seeds-Toasted
Green onions chopped - if you like (I don't)

Dressing: spice from soup, 1 tsp. Salt, 1/2 cup Oil, 1 tbsp. White Sugar, 1/4 cup White Vinegar.

Add dressing just before serving : to coleslaw, almonds, sesame seeds, noodles (uncooked from soup) and onions. Toss and enjoy!

I really like this salad, it is great in the summer. I'm a picky eater, so it must be good.

I do this too but I add some sugar to the Marzettis to make it a bit sweeter.

I always get good reviews from this one. Instead of using the cabbage, I buy the pre shredded cole slaw mix. You can leave out the raisins if you want, but it's really good with them in.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1-1/2 teaspoons honey
3/4 teaspoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup grated carrots
1/2 cup golden raisins
Directions:
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, honey, sugar, mustard and celery salt. In a serving bowl, toss the cabbage, carrots and raisins. Add mayonnaise mixture; stir to coat. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Yield: 4 servings.

Mine is super easy and my favorite. I buy the packaged cole slaw and mix it with Miracle whip until the consistency is what you like. Add dill seeds with a "light touch" nd mix. My mother used to add a little milk to make hers lighter. I like mine heavier....

Man...both my recipes are really complicated LOL Well, not really...but lots of stuff in them.

The first is just a basic cole slaw:
1 Medium head green cabbage, shredded
1 Medium carrot, shredded
1/2 tsp of celery seeds
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup real mayonnaise
3 Tbsp buttermilk
1-2 Tbsp of white vinegar
2-3 Tbsp of lemon juice

I usually just buy the pre-shredded cole slaw mix and then mix everything else and pour over that pre-shredded stuff. Mix well and let it sit in the fridge for atleast 2 hours.

The other is a apple slaw:
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp celery seed
8 ounces of cole slaw pre-shredded mix
1 thinly sliced Granny Smith Apple
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup red seedless grapes, cut in half
Mix all the liquid/sauce ingredients and the celery seed/sugar then pour it over the coleslaw mix (coleslaw, apple, celery and grapes.) Let it sit for a few hours in the fridge, and it can be made up to 2 days ahead of time.

I think my nannie just does the Hellmans or Miracle Whip with finely shredded carrots and cabbage....and it's mouth watering :) And my papa makes a mean Hawaiian salad (yes he cooks LOL), that's similar to cole slaw but sweeter.

Simple one from PA Dutch Grandparents.
Grate slaw or package one.
I never measure so here goes

About a heaping cup mayo
1/4 white vinegar
1/4 sugar + a heaping Tblsp
celery salt or seeds.
I add a Tbls milk for more moisture.
S & P if desired Taste and adjust.......sweet or sour, or mayo
:stir:
I use this for potato and macaroni salad with eggs in too.
