Running with a beagle is very ambitious. It's not so much that they will drag you all over the place, but they will be constantly stopping to smell everything. But again, some dogs are better than others. Still I can't say that I have ever witnessed anyone running with a beagle intentionally
My female is a very involved sniffer. She will sniff every blade of grass and she really has a mind of her own. When she decides she is done walking and would rather meditate upon the squirrels and rustling leaves, she stops. Even if in the middle of a walk. And she will not resume walking until she is ready. So she doesn't go with me on my routine walks
My male will somewhat heel in a beagley manner because he likes to take everything in instead of focusing on one scent, and he is eager to mark the next tree. So we walk fairly quickly.
