I just got back from picking my Sienna up at the dealer. I dropped it off for an oil change and to have them take a look at the rear heating....it was only blowing cold air when the front was blowing hot air. When I went to pick it up they tell me only AC comes from the top vents while the heat only comes from the floor vents which is why I was only getting cold air from the top vents. (I never cheked the floor vents for hot air, only the top vents as I can reach them to feel from the driver's seat)

Maybe I'm crazy but I could have sworn I had heat out of the top vents last year and the year before. Anyone else have only cold air from the top vents and heat only from the bottom vents with the rear heating????

That's strange, but I have a 2004 Avalon (also made by Toyota) and the same thing happens. I have to keep the heat always on feet only because it just blows cold air out of the top. I just thought it was my car though.

I will check mine tonight and let you know.

Does the rear have it's own control? Maybe it is set to cold or A/C while the front is set to heat. Do you have the sync button where you can set driver, passenger and rear all to the same level?

the rear has two controls. One up front (to just control the rear heat) and also a control in the middle row, behind the driver's seat so the passenger can control the heat/AC. Both controls were set to hot when I noticed the problem. I checked several times thinking because it was so cold the day I noticed maybe it was just taking longer to heat up or something. :confused3

I have a 2004 Sienna and have had these issues too. I've only noticed cold air blowing from those upper vents (even in the dead of winter when the heat was supposed to be on) and thought it just hadn't had time to warm up yet. I've even taken it to the dealer and asked them to check the back heating system and was told by the technician that it is working properly.

So yes, I have only noticed cold air from those top vents. That and the sliding doors freezing shut are my only gripes about my van, too. Now I'm curious--I need to go see if heat blows out those lower vents!

Wife has a Nissan Quest and it's the same. AC from the top and heat from the bottom.

okay, so I guess the verdict is that I am crazy and never had heat from the top vents before:upsidedow thanks!

We have an 04 Sienna (my Christmas present this year!)...we have hot air that comes out the vents in back. Knocks out DS#2 each time. Strange..

I got an 04 Sienna this year too! We got it at the end of October, but it was the biggest part of our Christmas to each other.
