I am just wondering how oftern this happens. I just want to know that if we hate POP we can try to switch to a moderate (paying the difference of course) after we check in.

We did it last year. It wasn't that we hated POR, DH just missed the GF too much. That was supposed to be our "budget" trip. Well that lasted less than an hour. It all went smoothly and GF even honored our AP rate. They also moved all our luggage since we had already left it in the room.

Didn't care for BC (DD was afraid of the slide at SAB). Explained the situation to the manager and we switched to CSR with no problem. We did stay the night that we checked in, however.

Yes, we were booked into PO-AB for 2 weeks last year - I didn't really like it when we got there, but after going to FQ for lunch was convinced I had made the wrong choice. We moved to FQ on day 3 and it was no problem at all - our AP rate and prepaid balance was transferred across very easily.

I wouldn't say we hated the resort, we just missed our old fave. Get this. We booked the Grand Floridian and after one night we switched to the Beach Club. We couldn't bare being away from the Epcot Resort area. It was no problem switching. Since then, we tried the Poly and we did not feel that way. In fact, we loved it so much we deemed the Poly our new favorite. Stayed there twice now. I think the GF was "grand" but it just wasn't our style. We're going in 10 days - guess where? BEACH CLUB.

We swithed from PO-AB once to POR. We had originally requested POR but it was "full". Our room was so run down at POAB (this was 2 years ago--I hope they've rehabed since then), that we had to call maintanence for some help. The maintanence people had us switched over to POR right away! Somehow, they had a room become available (?!) We also switched from ASSports once to POR. ASSports was full of HS Seniors on a class trip and it was CRAZY. We like the value resorts just fine otherwise.

we've done it twice....booked CBR and switched to Beach Club, and booked Poly and switched to Beach Club. We were trying different resorts, but we really missed being in walking distance of Epcot.

We checked into the Contemporary, walked down the beat-up hallway in the North Wing past maintenaince rooms with open doors to a dim, dirty room. My wife didn't say anything, but I could tell from her body language that she was not happy. We went looking for something to eat and found the wait too long for the Concourse Steak House so we took the monorail to Narcoosee's. After dinner, I went to the GF front desk and inquired about availability. They didn't have a room for us that night (at first) but when I asked him to check availablity at the Polynesian, he went in the back and when he came out he had found a room for us there. We didn't even have to check out of the Contemporary. We just took the monorail back, called for bellman, loaded our car up and drove over to the GF. We were on a 7-for-4 deal and we simply paid the difference.

We always stay onsite. But, a couple of years ago. We went for 5 nights. The first 2 nights we had friends at the Grovesnor near DTD. So we figured we would stay there and when they left we would switch to our original hotel the WL. Well, we check in and the place is a mad house. Then we noticed mold on the ceiling in the hall and it took an hour to get back to the hotel from the MK (had to stop at each hotel on the street). That night I called and was able to get into the WL the next day. Never again.

We did exactly what you described -- booked POP for 6 nights, decided it wasn't for us, and switched to POLY for the last 4 nights. You just go to the front desk, they find out the availability and cost difference, and Disney even transfers your luggage from the old room to the new room. Piece of cake !!!
Have a great trip !!! :mickeybar

We had stayed at the poly for week 1 and then moved to the swan for a studio suite. Well we where not happy. We have stayed at the dolphin, and liked it, but the swan just seemed more sedate, too removed from the pool areas, or "action" for us. :confused3 I missed the magic. (there were some problems with our room, this was 03 before rehab, and we had poor view, and interesting front desk help). :earseek: So next day we tried to switch back to poly but sold out, so got into our 2nd fav the BC, and scored an ap rate, for the rest of week 2. Swan did not charge us for the rest of stay, due to "the issues with our room" the understood our reason for moving. They where unable to move us to the dolphin, or a different room at the swan, which was our 1st request.

Otherwise, we have never left our choosen resort, we have changed rooms for view reasons. You can have your view request tommorrow if you want to change rooms etc.. .. We do :wizard: I think they offer these, hoping you won't move. Although looking back I can think of 1 time at the CR tower aug 04, we really should of moved to the poly or somewhere else, had a really problem room. But you never know. If your gonna do it, Jump and do it right away, when your thinking about, OR you will be thinking a few days later "we should of....."

Good luck, Mky princess:

We did this. We intended to split our stay btwn AKL and the Swan (got the $99 teacher rate which helped balance out what we thought was the exhorbitant AKL concierge rate of $235- oh to have that rate back again!) .

We had one problem after another at the Swan (screw was raised on the footplate btwn our connecting rooms and my neice cut her foot, mildew all over the ceiling in the bathroom, VEY uncomfortable beds, among others). There was just no disney 'feel'. After one night, we begged to be released from our 4 night agreement. At first they wanted to charge us a $50 change fee per room but after we again went over the list w/ the manager he agreed to waive it.

We trekked over to WL and had a wonderful remaining time on our vacation. After that experience, I have become *very* risk averse when it comes to hotel selection.

Few years ago to get my son and his wife to go to disney, I stated I would pay for both rooms, got rooms then at Dixie Landings at 122.00 a night per. Price was what I could stand. Arriving there I was broken hearted, we have always stayed in deluxes until this trip and the layout of the blocks of rooms was terrible, I couldn't find the food court or if I did my way back. Since I picked the resort and was paying for it, I kept my mouth shut and was just gonna enjoy Disney. Well, son and daughter in law had a mold issue on the shower that never got taken care of in a day and a half, and my son approached me and , knowing how hard headed I am , asked if I would consider moving to a different resort. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of moving, but wanted to keep everyone happy, asked, move to where? He called the manager and most of where we used to stay had no rooms but they would move us, same rate to the Yacht Club. I said yes, and they moved us, lock stock and barrel, beer and wine and all to the Y/B and we had bought mugs at Dixie they had 6 new mugs in our room. Best thing going, got introduced to another delux and fell in love with it. Have stayed numerous times, Beach mostly and our once a trip meal, is Yachtsman Steakhouse!!

POR-AB is part of POR. Do you mean you switched from the AB section to the Mansions?

Great Thread!! About a year or so ago, we tried CBR... (at the time was 1st try at a mod...), anyway, could make this a long story but lets just say it was one of those freaky situations.... the CM at front desk knew this was a bad room!! kept asking if i wanted her to check other resorts!!! we get to the room, it was beyond bad... carpet had flooded, stank, molded... yuck!!

Within the hour, we were at WL... had to pay the difference in AP rate, but they upgraded our view!! will never try CBR again, although we have happily enjoyed all the other mods.... :teeth:

Yup on our first trip. We stayed 2 nights at ASMo and couldn't take it anymore and moved to CBR. Our switch wasn't as easy though. ASMo swore there were no more rooms ANYWHERE onsite and wouldn't move us. I called the 1800# got a list of available rooms and took it to the front desk and requested to be moved to one of these rooms NOW. They moved us then! And we LOVED our stay at CBR.

I have done this. One year, we stayed at POFQ. I did not dislike it - it was nice but we missed WL. We got moved to WL at the managers special rate which was less than AP rate.

Second time, we decided to save by staying off-site at the Hyatt Orlando - rooms were fine, nothing wrong with the hotel, but we missed being on property. Part way into the trip, we called and arranged to do the DVC tour. Three hours later, we had bought into DVC and were packing our bags and checking into OKW!

Just curious - seems the people that have had success in moving have upgraded their resort. Just wondering if anyone has ever "downgraded" their resort once checked in.

Here's hoping it never has to happen, but it's always good to know!

*L* DW cracked up about this one.
Several years back we checked into the WL, and checked out quite soon after.
What was wrong:
The room was small, It had a remarkable view of the trash containers, and somehow I didn't get that 'Disney" feeling.
We made 3 attempts for them to fix the problem and they kept telling us there was nothing they (WL staff) could do. I finally said "I'm not happy!"
A manager (or higher i think) came out and dealt with us, hearing our complaints. I said i wanted out of the resort and he asked which one i wanted and I said GF, Y&BC, or Poly [where we honeymooned].
He said rather snottily he could do the poly, but "it'll be a view of the parking lot". I told him it was better than the trash bins- that verbal slap shut him up right quick. As we were packing up a bellman remarked we weren't the first to leave the resort lately. :teleport:

Needless to say we went to the Poly and ended up with a fantastic room. The parking lot view was in a total non-smoking bldg, so we were given Fiji and got a marina view :boat: . The CM's at the Poly were WAY better that WL

BTW- that wasnt the 1st time we've left a room, but 1st for Disney. If u pay the $$, you should be happy!!

Never done it but really wanted to on my last stay at POR. I just really hated the decor and the building style. Felt like I was in cheap apt building... just yucky! If I had been staying longer then two nights I would have moved!

I also would have moved out of GF if I had known what they were going to do to my bill, but that's another story. Plus it was the second rudest front desk staff I have ever experienced. (Number one goes to a Comfort Inn in the middle of no-where!)_

I just remembered I did move at DLP. When I got there and saw the Disneyland Hotel I HAD to stay there LOL! I never even checked into the Hotel New York... I just went in asked to be upgraded, not quite as simple as it would have been in Florida but they did it. (I tried not to think about how much money I was spending, but it was just one night!)
