I have never been to the hoop De Doo. DH and I are 54, raised 5 kids who don't care for WDW, and we are fanatics - go 4 times a year. We love WDW, and we have eaten just about everywhere, but never been to the HDR.

Is it really worth it? It really is pricey for fattening food - is it something that you would recommend we do just once? Or are we going to hate it due to screaming children? Are we too old now? How about Mickey's back yard barbeque - should we give this a whirl?

We love Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare and Boma - and love the parks.

Help me decide!

Also appreciate negative feedback

Anyone hate it?

you LOVE Disney and get all teary eyed leaving Disney then you'll Love Hoop-de-doo....it's very charming and slapstick kind of humor...and when we went most of the crowd was over 40...not many children when we went...I think the parents enjoy it more than the kids...our children loved the dancing and singing...they thought that was neat.

The food was okay...nothing that I just swoon over because I was raised on fried chicken, corn, and all the fixings...it's tasty just not unbelievable. The servers are very fun and we like it because it put us in that Disney spirit...everyone hooping and hollering for the heck of it and smiling through dinner...I think you and your husband would love it.

I agree...go!::yes::

It is just so much fun. I don't usually like corny jokes very much but this is so well done. It is just so funny.

And I agree, you will see lots of adults of all ages.

You will love the HDDR, I first went back in 1995, my children were 7 and 12 and were not thrilled about going at all, but it was something that I really wanted to see. Well, we all loved it and each time we've gone back to WDW that is one of the things that they still put on the must do list.
The food is okay, not horrible but not great, I do enjoy the Strawberry Shortcake though. But really you go for the show and in our opinion it is very very funny.
I have never experienced screaming crying children, generally they are having a good time as well. We usually go to the 7:15 show, maybe ther would be more children at the 5:00 show. I've gone to the 9:30 show too, but that was just too late to eat for me.
My one and only complaint, is that the hall is very cold. Each time we have gone in the summer we had to take a jacket or sweat shirt, the air conditioning is turned up too high.

four times a year and you've never experienced HDDR?! OH MY!! what a waste of all those trips ;)

we *LOVED* HDDR! it is a major MUST DO imo! the players are wonderful, the singing is great, jokes hysterically corny, food outstanding, audience well-behaved, servers A+, and wine/beer/sangria unlimited! this is one event that disney could offer a money back guarantee on and never have to pay out! it's *that* good! it truly appeals to all age groups!

ENJOY!

Not to be a wet blanket, but I think it's very much take it or leave it if you take the price into account. I guess I'm glad we've done it once, but only because now I'm not really curious about what it's like.

The funnest part for us was the boat ride to FW and then walking around over there. The setting is very cool. The show is (please don't shoot me) lame, considering the cost. Ok, that's way too harsh, but I just don't think it even compares favorably with some of the free shows around the world. For example, we were more entertained by the old show at the Diamond Horeshoe, which I think doesn't exist any more, but was similar and better and cheaper. And if you're used to disney quality in the shows -- like the fantastic Lion King show or the MGM stunt show -- the show itself at the HDD is just not in the same stratosphere, IMHO.

It's not the corniness of it or anything that I'm reacting to. We're fine with that stuff. It just wasn't that funny or entertaining to us. I like slapstick and puns, jut not the same pun over and over and over and over. (And over.) The food's ok, but just ok. Don't go for the food.

If budget doesn't matter to you, by all means do it. My bottom line, though, is that at $50 for an adult -- the same price as a day on a park hopper -- you don't get what you pay for. At $25 or $30, it would be fine.

If price is not an issue and you really do not feel like eating: go to the show.
However, if you want the food only: go to Pioneer Hall for the buffet, same food (maybe hotter) but at a more reasonable price. Afterwards take the wagon ride and stay for the Electric Water Pagent.
I have attended HDDR at least once every two years since 1986: usually because someone else pays for the dinner. When going solo I tend to go elsewhere. I like the songs and dance routines, but always feel that I am being rushed eating dinner.
If you go the upper balcony is the best location IMHO

Another vote in favor of HDDR!! I just wish WDW had more dinner shows. We had excellent food, and doing this show the 1st nite of arrival, set a positive tone for the whole trip. Enjoy!

We go first night on each trip,we enjoy the songs and skits that are performed.I was chosen to be in productin one time and got a Pioneer Hall Players certificate.I was Daveys angel. We also like the food it is good not great but good.Going this year on 12/5.::yes:: :wave2:

dh was also selected to be davey's angel the night we were there! toooooooooooo funny! i am soooo happy to have that photo (think he'd mind if i used it for our Christmas cards this year?! LOL!) :hyper:

The show is hysterical.:teeth: We loved it.:) I know you can order a vegetarian alternative to the food served. It could be less fattening.:) If you go, maybe you or your dh could be part of the show.:teeth:

We went in Sept and loved it. I was also hesitant because of the cost, but we had so much fun! We went to the 7:15 show. The food is so so, but edible... I really liked the salad and bread with sweet butter... I do think the price is somewhat high for what you get, but we had so much fun that we thought it was worth it.

Everyone should do this once. I think the price is too high now for the same food. Actually the same food as Trail's End. Though it's a nice show, it would be nice if Disney came back with their discounts on this show that they use to have back once upon a time. We only go when we can get a discount. I doubt I would ever go again at full price, but it does make for a fun--long--evening.

compared to most disney AYCtE dinners, i did not find it that much higher and it includes all you care to drink beverages (of the alcoholic variety) as well... imo, that's what brings the price up, so in order to get your money's worth, drink heavily (but be sure to take disney transport!):drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

too funny, but I do like sangroa, is it good?

I think you should try it. My dh and I did it years ago before we had kids and had fun. I just took my mom (70) and dds 4 & 8...no screaming kids (my 4 yo was probably the worst one in the place, she kept trying to laydown on the seat because she was tired). But she perked up each time the songs started again. We all really enjoyed it. I am not one who would want to see it every six months, but it is definitely worth doing at least once.

Do your have an anniversary or birthday coming up? It's fun to go when you have a special day....

I had the sangria...it was pretty good! Bread and honey butter are awesome!! Other food is okay, and they can accomodate special food requests, they prefer them in advance.

A bunch of us went and had fun. The show is silly and funny. But the food was only so-so. For the price it is not something we do every trip. But you should go at least once!

I thought HDD just wasn't worth the money.

The food is OK, but nothing spectacular, the beer was weak, and the jokes cross that fine line between corny and stupid. On the plus side, the performers give it their all, and families with kids seem to really enjoy it. If you love all things Disney, you may enjoy it, but I wouldn't go back again.

Why not try something new? My DD & DS love this show a must do on all WDW trips. I to love the show and to me the chicken is good not just ok. Well have a blast and make some noise for me.:thewave: :worship:

Wow, you go to WDW and have never been to HDDR! You need to give HDDR a try! :) We really enjoy it. We've taken both my parents and in-laws to the show (and all are older than you) and they all thought it was great! The show has lots of audience participation which is a riot. The food is hearty and tasty. It may not be the healthiest but it certainly goes well with the show.

Give it a try!::MinnieMo
