I'm asking because someone close to me is thinking about using it (no, really)
Any good or bad stories? What about the cost?

I tried it. I wasn't thrilled. It was like paying money to be rejected. They show you all your matches, but don't tell you if those people are subscribers are not. (You can see your matches for free). I would get lots of matches, but very few would ever communicate. One who did was a little scary. Very first message he is talking about marriage. I was very disappointed that I signed up for three months, and it automatically reenrolled me without my permission.

I know of people who have some positive experiences, but I was not one of them.

I have a good friend who met her now DH on there. They had instant chemistry and were married within a year of meeting. They seem happy.

I have another friend who met her now fiance' on there and they will be getting married next month.

I have another friend who has dated a couple of guys she met on there and hasn't found "the one" for her yet.

I tried it for a few days. Some guy was actualy seeing my friend and still looking on e harmony. But that could happen anywhere. It can't hurt to try it.

I had much better luck with match.com. I like you can hide your profile. Met my boyfriend there. It was his picture of the castle in the profile that hooked me :)

I have a coworker who married a guy she met through them. :)

My niece just got married in October to a guy she met on eHarmony within the last 18 months.

His brother also married a woman he met on eHarmony.

They are hoping that eHarmony will want them in one of their commercials.

DS28, is dating a lady from eHarmony. They are VERY compatable!!! He has met several girls from there, none bad, just none that he wanted to have a long term relationship with. This one seems very promising!!!!!

A very good friend met her now fiance on e-Harmony. :lovestruc
He is a really great guy and I am so happy for her!:goodvibes

TC:cool1:

I'm sort of seeing someone I met there, but I can already tell that this isn't a perfect match. I've had very few actually communicate with me, and usually they disappear by "step 3." They don't close the match, they just never reply. Then there were the couple of nutjobs... :sad2:

I'd rather be single, I think.

eHarmony is a HUGE waste of money.

I believe there are still free sites out there, or at least ones that don't charge as much as they do for THREE "matches".

eHarmony requires that you spend hours filling out the questionnaire. Then they send you three "matches" (but usually not all at once). Then you and your "match" answer questions (generated/controlled by eHarmony) back and forth for so many times before you are "allowed" to even talk to each other via THEIR "email" system.

eHarmony does not consider "physical attraction" at all. Sorry, but that is a very NATURAL part of the "chemistry" between two people.

eHarmony will also "match" you with people who are not members. So, you get your "guaranteed" three matches...even if two of them are not members and don't participate in eHarmony.

IT'S A RIP OFF!!

I met my DH online (another singles website) and we've been together for six years. I know lots of people who have met online (and NONE have used eHarmony).

I would strongly encourage your friend/relative to seek out other sites!

I am glad to hear of the successes of of eharmony. My girlfriend has been divorced for 6 years and has had no luck with another one of those sites. I will let her know about this one. She met a guy who looked at her and said "All you B****ES* lie! He said she lied about her weight! That date lasted all of 3 minutes. I guess you find good and bad ones on all sites. Maybe she will have better luck on eharmony.

Yes, there are whackjobs everywhere!!!!!

Am I the only eharmony reject? Apparently, I'm unmatchable.

No you aren't...trust me...they've "rejected" many and they've left MILLIONS out $60 with no "matches".

Only certain people are "worthy" of their site apparently

I had a female friend, mid 40s who used it and found it to be a total waste of time for her. She was very clear that she was (incredibly) fit and athletic and wanted a man who was the same, under age 60. EVERY single guy who was a "match" lied about their age and fitness. And it was very clear just from looking at them that they had lied. She had one guy who admitted to being 75 and using a cane who was a 'match'.

She generally found speed dating a much better way to vet the candidates.

Same thing happened to my friend. The last straw was when she was matched to a man from her area that she recognized because she knew his wife.

One of my friend's sister was rejected, too.

I'm really grateful for all your replies. I'll show them to her. They'll give her a lot to think about.

She's tried speed dating, and it went badly. I think that it can work if you are very good looking (as I imagine someone incredibly fit is). This lady is pretty, but not in the best shape.

And for the poster who told about a friend who was treated brutally at a first meeting "all you B****es LIE!", I'm so sorry. That must have hur so much. It takes a lot of courage to try something like this. I'm single too, but I can't imagine being brave enough to ever try!

The lady who wants to try eHarmony is in he mid-forties. She always feels worse about being single around the Holidays. It doesn't help that every made for TV Christmas movie seems to send the message that if your a woman who's not part of a couple, madly in love during Christmas your life is pretty much worthless.
