Just curious............has anyone had problems getting their #1 resort choice when booking 7 mos. in advance? If so, what time of year where you trying to make a reservation for and did you ultimately get a room at your choice, or did you have to settle for a different location?

Thanks!

No, fortunately, we have not had a problem but we usually travel in off season, early March, September, and early December, and my husband is a fanatic about calling on the very first day he can call as soon as Member Services opens. :rotfl2:

Not yet :) Although we have only booked two trips so far, and tend to travel off season. Each of these bookings has been made, necessarily or not, on a day by day basis, at the earliest possible time (ie. on a day by day basis exactly 7 months prior to checkout date).

I'm hoping our luck holds, as I will need to begin booking for our November trip (which includes extended family) next month. Should be interesting, as I am going to have to be making my booking calls from England (I know... cry me a river :teeth: )

We have been members for several years and two of the last three years there was not a GV at OKW during June at 7 months.

i just booked bcv yesterday at a little less than 7 months out. i figured early october would be booked bc of f & w, but i got the room i wanted :Pinkbounc i was very pleasantly surprised, i had been worried that i would never get in anywhere at 7 months. but now i'm more relaxed about it :lmao: i did try to book at HH at only 3 months out as soon as i became dvc, but i figured it would be full - and it was. i guess it's just the luck of the draw :confused3

 :yay: I just called today to try to change an existing reservation at the 7 month window. I had 2 studios at VWL for Oct.1-9. I wanted BCV for at least a couple of days. I did get 2 studios at BCV for Oct 1-4. I did want 1 or 2 more days so I waitlisted 1-2 days but I still have VWL for 4th-9th. Which I did want to stay at VWL also.

We tried to get BWV at the 7 month for July and it did not work out. They had the 2 bdrm avail. but they did not have 2 studios. We needed the three rooms, we are traveling with a large party. I am sure had it just been my imediate family we could have gotten something. Instead we chose to go with OKW. It turned out better anyway OKW uses less points. There is always the waitlist. I have heard many times on this board of it coming through. Happy Vacationing.:cool1:

We travel at unusual times, so no, not in general.

My guess is that if you were to try and book a resort during a popular time of year (such as BWV or BCV during the F&W Festival), it mightbe a problem.

Thanks for all the posts, everybody!!

We, too, will initially be travelling in the "slow" months, but as our kids get older, it will be a little harder pulling them out of school, so we just wanted to have an idea of how hard/easy the booking would be before we picked our final "home" resort. :goodvibes

There are at least three major considerations. Location, season and room type. Sometimes all three come into play. Generally, 1 BR is the easiest room type. At BWV, 2 BR SV is hardest (no dedicated) while at HHI 2 BR is easiest (very few studios). I would suggest that the hardest room types are 2BR SV at BWV, grand villa at OKW, 2BR 2Q at BCV and cottages at VB (sure there are others). Seasonal booking issues include F&W at EPCOT DVC, early December at EPCOT and VWL and summer at HHI. School holidays are also tough. The other real tough time is any Sunday night with a Monday holiday (even MLK week in an otherwise slow January). We have not had great luck with wait lists although many others have. My most recent experience was booking a SV studio for Columbus day week at BWV (doesn't get much tougher than that). I waited until the end of the week at 11 months to book (mistake) but was able to get the last studio available. The more flexible you are - the happier you will be with DVC.

Before I owned BCV, we tried to book ressies there at the 7 month window twice...and, could not get anything. One ressie was Memorial Day Weekend, and the other was early December. One other time, my mom had "partial" luck calling day-by-day (when she could get thru to MS early in the morning, she got the room, but if she waited until the afternoon, the rooms were all taken). So, she got part of her days.

We now own at BCV (sold our points elsewhere). For early Dec. trip for this year, I called day-by-day at the 11 month window. About six weeks later, we decided to add a day, but there were no rooms available (we were 9 1/2 months out). We went on a waitlist for the one night, but there is STILL nothing available. I will be calling in May to see if we can get that one night at VWL or BWV....but, I am really hoping my waitlist comes thru. I cannot believe I cannot get ONE night at home resort when I am booking 9 1/2 months out!!

I am little curious about this since I called last week and spoke to MS about a reservation at BCV from 12/10-16 and it was available. What type of room were you looking for and what day?

We are renting points in late July and got a preferred view studio @ BWV with no problems. The ressie was made in early February.

We booked January's 1BR reservation at a little under 2 months. We had to waitlist for one night at VWL, but it came through at about 35 days or so prior to check in. We originally had our second week at BCV, but were waitlisted for the last night. We decided to book at SSR for the 2nd week so we wouldn't have to switch to a studio for the last night at BCV since our waitlist hadn't come through. This was at about 2 wks prior to check in.

I know that the guides probably say whatever to get you to buy sometimes, but mine told me that most bookings are 3 to 4 months in advance excluding peak times, so I would think (and I hope, since I love love love VWL) that non-peak times would be doable.

We also have been very fortunate to get our desires at beach club villa's . We prefer to go in October or November, pretty flexible. We usually book in June or July. We had to wait list a couple of times but every time they have been able to accomodate our family! Can't wait until our November trip, this time I booked 10 months out, I couldn't wait any longer!
