I just closed the door on an agent for something like "Ontario Energy" (I can't remember exactly). He was going on about locking in the price so we are protected by deregulation etc.

Has anyone had this? What did you do?

I HATE when people come to my door :furious: - that in itself is enough for me to say no. I was immediately wary of the whole process and told him I wanted to look into things. It felt like some timeshare presentations...You won't get this offer again...you have to decide today etc.

The pushier he got, the less interested I was. At one point he even said to me "You obviously don't understand what I am telling you here" so I responded with "Are you calling me stupid? Is that really how you get people to sign up for this?" and then I asked him to leave.

haven't had one yet ... BUT I know that they are recruting a lot of young people to work for them and if they don't get 7 people to join at the end of their first week then they get fired !! !!
This is in the GTA.

I've had them at my door, but they've never been rude. I don't remember if it was for power or natural gas.

The guy at my door was for hydro and natural gas. I think I forgot to mention that. :rolleyes2

I had a direct energy guy come by when I first moved into my new home. I signed up. And have since learned that I'm saving about 20 cents per M3 since locking in the price. Pretty good.

Then he came back about 2 years later, to sell me price lock on hydro. It went fine until he wanted to take a copy of my hydro bill with him. I don't like giving away paperwork (that's the accountant in me). I told him he could copy down the account # but not take the paperwork with him. Needless to say, he got huffy. And I told him that if that's what he needed to complete the sale, then he really needs to take it up with his company about taking other people's private paperwork. So I shooed him away, and still have no price lock ;)

But I do hate the pressure of having to decide on the spot. From now on I will just tell them that they have to make an appointment! LOL

They come to our house on a regular basis since we moved in 3 years ago. We're in a brand new subdivision and they never remember which house they have been to and it's always a different "sales rep". I find them very rude and obnoxious. We even had one guy actually ask us if we "like to waste money" because we turned him down. Needless to say, that was the end of that conversation. The funniest is when they say they already have our information, they just need us to sign for our approval and need a copy of our bill. It seems fishy to me, but there are people in our neighbourhood who have signed up.

We have had direct energy come to the door and one other one we signed on with direct energy it is saving us money on our gas bill mind you Union gas keeps upping the delivery charge etc to make up for the loss in the lower gas price I think.
