Anyone had a DFTW reception in an unlisted location?

I've seen on Mouseweddings a mention about people successfully negotiating with Disney to have their DFTW reception in a location that isn't listed in their standard list of choices.

Can anyone here provide any info about their experience with this?
Thanks!

Have you looked at the list of locations on the website and nothing seems right? You can call the DFTW office and talk to the sales manager and tell them what you have in mind and see what they offer you. I was offered 2-3 places that aren't listed - some of them are pretty interesting. I am trying to keep my reception location a secret - if you pm me I can tell you what we are planning. Also tell me what you have in mind and I can tell you if I was offered anything like it.

i was told that i could do whatever i wanted, i originally wanted my reception at 50's prime time, but it's being refurbed during my wedding...they said you can do whatever you want, but you have to work around park hours...

It seems that 99% of the time, Disney will work with you to give you the location that you want. But be prepared that the more unusual the venue sometimes means a higher site rental fee, and other hoops (like working around park hours) to jump through.

My site - The Attic - isn't terribly unusual, but it isn't on the list in the packet they give you. I just knew about it from this board.

I also looked into using an Animal Kingdom site, but there were lots of time restrictions. Like the other posters said, you can probably do just about any place you think up, but I have to tell you - DFTW will not help you with ideas. They like to stick to the standard locations. When I asked about nontraditional locations, all I was offered was the lawn at BoardWalk Inn ;)

Ah, I see. I guess it makes sense they want to keep things standard heh.

DF and I are going to wander around the World (WDW lol) over the next few days racking our brains for ideas to propose to them then lol.

Yes, our reception was held at Muppets Courtyard at MGM. You need to be very prepared to work within the park's guidelines, pay higher fees and be flexible to change. In the end it was amazing and worth every single penny and stress!

We are having ours at the Summerhouse at the GF. We wanted a less formal, more relaxed reception...so we figured outdoors, on the water, at the GF, surrounding a bar would be great !
