I need some suggestions. We have one wall in our family room that is driving me crazy...its huge and I have no idea what to put on the wall. Our family room is open 2 stories, and this is one wall with floor to ceiling, 2-store bareness right now. I can't just hang one picture up cuz it wouldnt even take up a portion of the wall. I need some suggestions for modern pictures or something to hang on the wall. Any ideas for me? Thanks!

you could take thin molding and make some different sized squares with it, then mount them on the wall and paint the molding and the wall inside the "frames" the same color. That would break up your space some.

quilts, rug, tapistry?

4 large pictures identical in size and framing in a square/rectangle?

Can you take a picture of the wall? What color is the room? I would suggest painting the Big wall a darker color than the rest of the room to visually draw the eye down.

Totally :offtopic: , but boy tink, does your kid look like you!!!!! Wow!!!!!!!!

Back on topic....I would do a grouping of pictures or photos, with some sort of connecting theme. The theme could be whatever you want...they are all black and white photos in silver frames, they are all photos/pictures of flowers, they are all photos of Disneyworld, they are all photos of your family at Disneyworld, they are all photos of Cinderella's castle (come on, you kow you have about 25000 photos of Cindy's castle! ;) ). The photos/pictures can be different sizes. Another thing I saw once, which was very nice, was this lady who had taken different lace doilies and matted and framed them and hung them in a grouping. It really looked beautiful. The key is to have all the photos following a theme, whether it be the same subject, the same style, the same frame.

You've gotten some really good ideas!

I'd probably do a grouping of pictures. Maybe a large framed picture/rug/wall hanging on the upper left. Lower right, I'd probably do the grouping of pictures or grouping on ledge shelves. They look like mini mantles to me. :)

(I tried to show you an example of spacing, but it didn't show up as I intended.)

Sconces are nice too. You could maybe put one in between the upper left and lower right (or visa versa) groups.

I love the show on TLC where they redecorate a room using things people already possess. You may have some things to use already!

:thumbsup2
Picture frame moulding is totally the way to go. My husband did it in our two story foyer and it looks awesome. Now, when I've been in place without it, they feel kind of...naked. I'll post some pics later.

I like the paint it in a darker color idea. And also the 4 picture, all the same size one too. Do both.

We have the same type wall in our family room. We have crown molding at the ceiling and a chair rail. The builder created a big 'picture frame' with molding from 18" from the chair rail up to 18" from the crown molding. Rather just creating a huge square, each corner is notched out. We also have a 5' x 6' contemporary canvas hung towards the bottom.

I also have a 2story den. My largest wall currently has my Disney lithographs but I may change it some, I'm redoing some things in the room and haven't decided what will be on this wall. Here is a picture.

Thanks for all the great ideas! If anyone else has photos I would love to see more also.

I think these are great ideas, also try to add a shelf or something that is three dimensional. Maybe a shelf under the pictures ,some sort of mirror or wreath to add with the pictures

Adding photos now that I have them of our "picture frame" moulding.

If you have furniture against that wall (e.g. a sofa) you can put a long shelf over it (see the Pottery Barn catalog for examples) with pictures, photos, or whatever on the shelf. This ties the wall in with the furniture so the art doesn't seem to just be "floating" on a huge wall. You do not need to put artwork way up the wall just because you have a 2-story wall.
