Ok, first let's set things straight. I've done the 4-day Wonder with a 6 year old and we got off in Nassau for a couple of hours to shop while leaving DD in the clubs. We knew that the beeper probably wouldn't work, so we just prayed our way thru. No problem. I see that many people here have asked about the same thing and I was wondering if anyone gave their child one of their cell phones "just in case". DD is now 8 and I thought that letting her hold on to one of our cells might ease our minds. Although she is older, now she really likes to hang with us, so I see her playing for a while, then wanting to hang with us (just because she knows that we're out on the island without her :D ). The last cruise, we were only paged once and that was while we were on CC. Please, no flames, I'm not neurotic. Just wondering if anyone else thought of doing this. Our cell phones worked fine in Nassau before. Come to think of it, what about walkie/talkies?

Our pagers worked fine in Nassau also. Provided you are only going to be shopping at the shops near the ship, you should be fine with the pagers. If you plan to go to Atlantis, then they will probably not work.

Make sure that your cellular company provides service in Nassau. Not all of them do. And in some cases you may get a signal but find that their are huge (many dollars per minute) roaming charges.

Also when in port, you may find that the cell phone has problems working in some interior areas of the ship (too much metal) so DD in the clubs may not be able to get a signal. It would depend on where she is in the ship and where the towers are located relative to the ship. So it could be possible that cell phones may work in a given location in one port but not in another (tower closer to ship).
