Because you last trip was SO AWESOME you feel like subsequent trips will never live up to that experience?

Our last trip to WDW was Oct 2005. I can't believe it has been so long, but we let our seasonal passes expire and we did not want to go in the summer anyway...so here we are, coming up on our next big trip....8 nights in The World. Last year EVERYTHING was so perfect...the weather, the crowds (well, it was a wee bit more crowded than I expected, but it was fine) and also we had two different sets of friends up there at the same time as us, so we met up with them at various restaurants and/or events. We had no glitches in our ADRS, no bad meals...our rooms were great (BWV and POR.) For some weird reason, I am almost feeling anxious, and kind of dreading this Oct 2006 trip because I feel like-- HOW can it be as good?

I know I sound like a loon, but I figured I can't be the only one who feels this way. I LOVE  WDW and it is our one big trip we take a year, so I guess I have everything kind of banking on it being perfect. I did not feel this way in past years when we took shorter weekend trips. Just wanted to vent and see if anyone else has these apprehensive feelings. Thanks for listening. :cool1:

All of our trips have been wonderful. There's always a glitch or two....but when you're as buy as most folks are at WDW, there are bound to be problems. But by the end of the trip all you can remember are the magical moments and the great family memories.

I do try to guard against trip comparison by changing things up in our plans from year to year (different ADR's, lots of mini golf vs Disney Quest, etc). If we did water parks the last time, we'll maybe do no water parks this time...and so on. (We're going in November..so I'm not even thinking of a water park for this trip). But on the last trip we did Cirque and a couple other shows (HDDR and Fantasmic). This time it's MVMCP and Candlelight Processional. So I try to keep things fresh and interesting. We've managed to go at 4 different times in our last four trips and that has helped a lot.

Have fun planning. :goodvibes

I totally understand what you're saying. after our first trip as a family 3 years ago, i felt the same way.

8 trips later (and the 9th coming up in 4 weeks and the 10th coming up this xmas), i've learned to not try to re-create anything from the other trips. we stay in different places each time, or at least try to let time pass between resort stays then stay in another building... we do different things each trip that we've never done, we only do 2 parks per trip, or at least really concentrate on 2 parks even if we 'visit' the other parks. it keeps the trips different, fresh and exciting, and no stress or nervousness of not having as wonderful a trip as last time. even if it pours the entire trip, we don't care. we'll do things the whole trip that are rainy day things, and that's what we'll remember from that trip.

enjoy and create new magic each time!

I'm leaving for a trip in about a week. :thumbsup2 Last year at this time, I took my dd and her best friend for a girls trip with free dining and we had the best trip ever. When I got home I couldn't quit talking about it. No lines, great food, $39 ding fares, etc..... This year when free dining came out again, I mentioned it to DH just to let him know we would probably be going again. Well, he decided he'd come along. He hasn't been in over 10 years and when we got home that time, he said he didn't really want to go back. (I have not let that stop me, however.) Now the trip has turned into me, DH, DD24 and her fiance, and DD17 and her boyfriend.(couldn't let DH be the only guy) We upgraded the resort from Pop to POR because I thought my DH would like it better.

I'm totally stressed that this trip could never live up to the hype of last year's trip. It's so important to me that my DH enjoy himself, because my kids are almost grown, and I would like him to come with me on future trips. Hopefully the pixiedust: will fly and everything will be great

What's with these husbands, mine was also very reluctant to go---at first, but now he enjoys it as much as I do. He even tried to get his mom & dad to go along, but that was a bust. Their philosophy is if you can't find it in Indiana, then you don't need it. :rotfl:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an extra special trip since we don't get to go that often, and my two little boys don't really remember our last trip.

Anyway, you're worst day at Disney is better than your best day at home! :thumbsup2

I think I am more nervous because of the waiting- come on 13 days, than worrying about having a better vacation that last year's. As each year passes and so do the disney vacations my family learn new things on every trip. I use each year's trip as a guide on how to expand for the following year. My husband just told me yesterday that every year going to disney you learn something more useful than the year before.

Thanks for the responses, guys! A few of you made the great suggestion of doing different activities each trip. That is actually a great idea and I will remember that for next time. That suggestion made me realize that I *DID* plan this trip to almost mimic last years (doing FDP, staying at BWV, doing MNSSHP, PftS etc) and I can see where that could be a recipe for disaster. Then again, we are also doing HDDR for the first time this year, and have an ADR at CG during Wishes (we ate there once a looong time ago) and plan on spending more time at MGM and AK which we did NOT do last year.

The things that I am most nervous about are:

weather(I know, that is stupid...it is beyond my control)
crowds
room location at BWV

Then I worry about little things. Like...last year, every time we went to the BWV pool we got a great seat under an umbrella. I want those seats again!

I think I have just planned and planned and now things are out of my control. I just gotta go with the flow. As babynurse said...a bad day at Disney is really not that bad, now is it?

Nice to know I am not alone in feeling this way. :goodvibes

I feel like that. Our last trip was in a 2 bedroom villa at OKW. We got an ADR at the castle. We were there for nine days and though it rained a lot, it didn't stop us. Now I have to plan for April, and I know the castle is almost a pipe dream at this point....and a villa? All depends on the tax return! So yeah, I feel that way. :confused3

I'm only nervous that my car won't make the 1,100 mile trip. :scared1:

So far, all of our trips as a family have been at diff't times of year. That alone makes them very diff't and I always try to add a few new things along w/ some favorites.

This coming trip is the 1st time we're back again in Oct since 2003 and doing MNSSHP again. I'm a little nervous comparing the 2 trips as you say. But again, we're trying several new restaurants...and more off time to enjoy the hotel pool/DTD (we're at POFQ) so I hope that will help too.

We have only been 3 times in 15 years, this Christmas will be our 4th. I am extremely nervous going that time of year, as we have only been during not-so-busy times in the past. On one hand, I'm thinking this will be our best trip ever because it is our longest, 10 nights and our first time staying onsite. I have read many posts from people who always visit during Christmas because it is so Magical. Buuuuuuuuttttttt, I am totally freaked about how the crowds might be. I am afraid that DH and DS's 15 and 13 will be too impatient to stand in line because in the past, we never had to. Also, it sounds like even the previously uncrowded times are now crowded so what must Holiday time be? We went once during Thanksgiving with the Food and Wine Fest and still no lines!!! PLEASE!! Somebody reasure me !

LOL! Going to WDW was all my husband's idea! He booked everything, researched every inch of the parks, made all our ADRs, and is probably even more excited than our kids! Even if it is the strong, silent kind of excitement, LOL! He's already talking about taking our grandkids someday, our kids are 11 and 16, LOL! He's a freak, but I love him.

Every trip of mine has been wonderful in its own way. My most recent trip had some elements that I could dwell upon that were far from "plan", but these diversions opened up new opportunities to do something I had never tried before. (Such as taking an early morning trip to MK on my own for 2 hours when it opened at 7AM, and coming back to the hotel for breakfast with all the sleepyheads!)

...and for all you with reluctant husbands out there, I want to know if I ended up with the only reluctant wife...

Yea, I do get very nervous but mine is because every ( and I do mean every ) time we go my dd ends up sick, last year we went and we visited no less than two hospitals getting there , and she stayed in the hotel room , feeling bad the whole week. We will try it again in April, God speed to us ! :grouphug:

Forgot to add some examples..... I try to carve one day where we're not primarily in the parks and we do something different. This year I'm sending DD7 on pirate's cruise and letting DD17 and DD15 rent water sprites. We did that 5 years ago and they had a great time. On the last trip we let the teens try the surfing at Typhoon Lagoon. When my DD7 is just a bit older, then we'll start to do some of the backstage tours.

We also change up where we watch Wishes from. Sometimes we plan for inside the park - in front of the castle, sometimes from behind the castle (that's my favorite) and sometimes on the Poly beach.

I read thru the threads on this board and the notes on allears.net and see what other folks think are "must dos" or special treats and try to add at least one per trip. Some of these activities then become things that my kids want to do every trip. Some things are "okay", but we don't want to do them again.

Like another poster said.....we learn something about WDW on every trip!

We had one most excellent trip last year, that can never be topped in the same way- or at least I seriously doubt it, so I felt a little bit like you do on a return trip last spring. Having said that, we went last spring with DH's family for the first time, It wasn't perfect, but I didn't hold it to the same expectation level. You know what? There were lots of magical moments on that trip too! When the kids saw the castle for the first time ever, that was super special. On his first attraction ever, my nephew was chosen by a CM to help usher the crowds. It wasa little thing, but the Cm's timing was perfect. After those two events, I wasn't worried anymore.

On each trip we usually learn something. We also try to vary our trips a little - we don't alwyas hit DTD each time. Sometimes we go to Universal, or somewhere else for a day. (I don't know why, but I really like Orchid World.) And even though I've got plenty of shopping near me, hitting the outlets in Orlando for a few hours is good for variety too. The Disney store there is pretty cool.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread! Sounds like other folks have this issue, and have great tips on beating the anxious, pre WDW trip jitters!
