Anyone Game? It’s my Sep 2013 Blog! I'm home; with a TR link in #1189, 10/14

All of that looks super yummy....

They were. ;)

I never said that podunk was a bad thing. I prefer small towns over techno cities. Last night we ate at a place in downtown LA that reminded me of futuristic cities like Logan's Run, and Total Recall. It was weird.

That school fair looks really fun. I love freshly made crepes!

I'm hoping for freshly made crepes at F&W in October. :thumbsup2

Awww.....that's a very sweet onion thing to say. ::yes::

Oh stop it, you'll have me in tears :lmao:

Was all the food at the school fete made by parents because I can see a few parents I'd like to be friends with ;)

The school did get some professional vendors in; but the cupcakes were made by parents. And those biscuits and the tarts....she runs her own cake business.

Oh my those look so yummy! I'll take one of each.:rotfl:

I did.

:lmao:

Guess What? It's The 60,000 Postmark

With this post, I have hit the milestone of 60,000 posts.
Seems like I hit these milestones on a regular basis; although this last 10K has been my slowest to date.

Those of you that have hung out with me for a while will know that I like to do some accounting around these these mill....er....milestones.

So, assuming that there was a minimum of 40 seconds between each post....

I have accumulated the following numbers:
  • 60,000 posts, which if I assume the 40 second rule, amounts to a minimum of
  • 2,400,000 seconds spent on the Dis, which translates to
  • 40,000 minutes, which translates to
  • 666.67 hours...or rather...
  • 27 days

That's a lot of time Dis-sing.....and almost a full month of Sundays.

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2013

What do the following 5 have in common?
  • Philadelphia, USA
  • Chelsea, England
  • Keukenhof, Holland
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Cape Town, South Africa

Congratulations to you if you knew that these 5 towns are home to the top 5 Flower Shows in the World!

I did mention that last weekend was a rather busy weekend for us. Aside from the school carnival, it was also the weekend where the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show was in full bloom.

This show is held at the Royal Exhibition Building.

0324FlowerandGarden008.jpg

This building is over 100 years old and was the site of the first sitting of Federal Parliament in Australia.
I normally try to get to the show during a weekday to avoid the crowds. But the only time I had this time round was on Sunday.

0324FlowerandGarden120.jpg

It isn’t quite Disney proportions; but it was busy enough for me.

The flower show attracts Florists, Retailers and Growers from all over the world, some of which participate in the yearly competitions. The Great Hall is usually filled with a rainbow of colours and scents; this year was no exception.

One of the competitions usually involve creating dressage of sort….I call these the dress food collection.

0324FlowerandGarden013.jpg

By the time Sunday came round, some of the dresses looked worse for wear.

The floral arrangement competition had a Pretty in Pink theme.

0324FlowerandGarden142.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden140.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden141.jpg

Surprisingly, I actually liked the pink displays!

And as always the major players in the industry went all out to showcase their creativity.

0324FlowerandGarden022.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden023.jpg

There were a few exhibits that caught my eye….

0324FlowerandGarden036.jpg

Sometimes, simplest is best.

The growers were also not to be outdone. They had their own special way of displaying their talents.

0324FlowerandGarden046.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden047.jpg

Vera Bradley - eat your heart out!

0324FlowerandGarden073.jpg

I liked the reference to Easter in this display.

0324FlowerandGarden078.jpg

Exotic hothouse flowers are always in vogue.

0324FlowerandGarden076.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden070.jpg

Another competition involves table arrangements. I always take a keen interest; but I have to admit that I prefer to have more space to put food on the table and to be able to see my dining companions. Check out what I mean,

Our very own Tree of Life!

0324FlowerandGarden134.jpg

Fresh as a daisy....not!

0324FlowerandGarden108.jpg

It wasn’t all Send in the Clowns stuff....

0324FlowerandGarden135.jpg

There were a number of arrangements that I liked.

0324FlowerandGarden106.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden131.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden127.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden110.jpg

If you’re wondering about the Garden stuff....there is also a whole garden dedicated to the outdoors. Lots of things for sale and to spend money on.

0324FlowerandGarden145.jpg

The serious stuff involves display garden....the kind of gardens that cost as much as a home.....or a trip to WDW.

0324FlowerandGarden160.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden163.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden157.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden004.jpg

Yes, it was a very pleasant way to spend the day. Hope you enjoyed the floral displays.

I love that you go to all these events. I've been living in Melbourne for over 5 years now and haven't attended anything like what you've posted about! I must start to get out and about a bit more (it would help being a bit closer to the city though :rotfl:).

I used to work for a landscape design company who specialised in those gardens that cost as much as a house... they wouldn't look at anything worth under $100k :scared1: Needless to say, I saw some pretty impressive stuff working there!

....whatever you said, :woohoo: WOOHOO!!!:woohoo:

Thanks for the pics. I feel like I just had a tour of the Flower Show from the comfort of my home across the Tasman.

The pink dress is my favourite - probably because gerberas are my favourite flowers.

Well......what's stopping you? :confused3
Even some of the smaller events closer to where you are will be worth the effort. :goodvibes

Thanks, Kimmar. And I love your ticker and countdown. Here's hoping that we won't have a repeat of your trippie without a name....and without an end.

(Thanks for stopping by!)

I'm not usually a pink girl; but I really loved the pinkness of that section this year. :rotfl:

Glad you liked them.

Those flower arrangements were incredible. I need to get out a little more often too! :rotfl:

I was rather impressed with the arrangements this year. Whilst some of them were over the top, a lot of them were beautiful and I could see them in my place.

Plans as they stand for September 29; A Day for 3 Airports

Where are we going?

Leave Pagosa Springs and drive to Durango Airport (Airport #1). This drive takes about 1 hour and we will have to drop off the hire car at the airport.

6537013.jpg

I don’t think this is a very big airport so we may well stop at a deli or a supermarket along the way and pick up some food.

We’re flying out of Durango and, sadly, we have a 4 hour transit at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (Airport #2), which is probably the complete opposite in size to Durango La Plata.

13515.jpg

What are we doing?

I suspect our day will consist of a lot of standing around in queues.

110323-passengers-dfw.jpg

…and this.

strandedairport.jpg

The good news is by the end of the day, we will be in Orlando International Airport (Airport #3)!

fare_search.jpg

It will be late when we arrive; but we’ll be in Mouse Country.

2965311994_09c5903c8e_z.jpg

And for those of you wondering....I've posted this on April Fool's Day. I wish it were otherwise; but this is NOT an April Fool's Day joke. If I survive the Three Airports Day, it will be an absolute miracle!

Congrats on the 60K posts! The pics of the flowers are beautiful.

Ugh the joys of air travel... At least they're short flights though, and you know by the end of it you'll be in Mouse Country :thumbsup2
