This thread kind of caught my attention. We're currently living outside Houston, but it looks like we'll be transferred to OK City by the end of the year. Can anyone suggest which neighborhoods in OK City or surrounding cities would be good to look at??????????

I live in Moore, which is just south of OKC and north of Norman (home of the Sooners, yeah!)

Anyway, the SW part of Moore is booming and the school systems have always been great (I'm a product of the system and my daughter is now going to school here too.

Here's some links to our city:

If I may ask, what is the nature of the transfer (military, business, etc)??

Thanks for chiming in!

I AM! I was born and raised in Oklahoma. But sadly will be moving to the Big D when DH2B finishes pharmacy school. :sad2:

My husband and I graduated from OSU in the late 80s and moved to Virginia to start our careers. Even though we have lived in Virginia for 18 years now, Oklahoma will always be home. I grew up in a little town northwest of Enid, called Alva ,and my husband is from Tulsa. Hello everyone from my home state of Oklahoma!

Business. My husband is being promoted and will require a transfer. It's a 80% chance to OK City, 10% Dallas, 10% anywhere else.

Honestly the only places you want to consider are Edmond or Norman. Coming from the East coast those were the 2 nicest places I have found. I have been here since 1991. Norman is the 3rd largest city in Okie and you really don't even have to leave the city anymore other than going to Tinker. Not to make the Mooreites upset, but IMO I would stay away from Moore. I work as a Paramedic there alot and I'll keep the reasons to myself. Just a fair warning. Guess I can mention if you live in Moore you increase your chances greatly of being wiped out by tornadoes. Also stay away from living around the base. It is much nicer driving a straight shot down one road to Norman. Takes about 20 minutes. Goes by quickly though. It is nice to get away from the military that live all around the base. Check Norman out, I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Another SW Okie Here.......Bringing 18 high school seniors to WDW on May 21 for Senior Trip. : :cheer2:

I was wondering if you had kids that woule be attending public school. I'm an education major, and can tell you some of the statistics on the best public school system in central OK.

Just a few more weeks before we're moving to Oklahoma. I'm looking forward to the warmer climate and already dreading the flights to Orlando!! I've been spoiled by the direct flights from Kansas City. :earsboy:

I don't know where in OK you are moving to, but we will make the short 3 hour drive to KC to be able to fly directly to Orlando! We only live about 30/40 minutes from Tulsa International, but we would much rather drive up to KC and fly direct than to have hours of layovers!

Welcome in advance to OK, by the way! :earsgirl:

Do tell me, here or by pm, on the better public schools. We do have 2.5 kids and I would love to save the money by going to public school v. private. Plus, the better your school system, the easier it is to sell your house when it is time to move!! :goodvibes

I was born in Bartlesville, moved away to NY after graduating from OSU and have been back in OK (Lawton, to be exact) for 7 years now.

To finish a song started on the first page....

I'm Cowboy born and Cowboy bred
I'd rather die than be sooner red....

Censoring the rest for obvious reasons. :cheer2: :cheer2: GO POKES!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I've spent 30 of my 32 years in Moore, and it is a great place to live. The tornadoes have only hit twice since I've lived here. The schools rank very high on the list and the west and SW parts of the city are booming with new housing. Granted, the east side of Moore is older, but there really isn't a "rough" area of the city, just older (housing, buildings, etc) Plus the cost of living is very reasonable, as is the entire state.

I will agree with you about Norman, however. It would be the only other city I would want to live in besides Moore.

Hello,
we live in Wellston Oklahoma!!!
We are thinking about flying nonstop from Delta for 277 RT to orlando in May.
Does anyone know from experience if this is a good price?
My hubby grew up here in Wellston and we love it.We live off of Route 66!!!!

I'd say wait a little while longer. You should be able to get better fares than that although they probably won't be non stop. Where is that flying out of? I haven't seen non stop fllights from OKC to MCO before.

I grew up in Sparks and graduated from Chandler. Nice to see you around here.

By the way, Merry Christmas everyone!

Lori

Just found this thread today- what a delight! Except that there appear to be many more Sooners here than Cowboys so I'll throw our Cowboy hats into the Poke ring. DH and I graduated from OSU in the mid 90's. I've just recently become obsessed with Disney. We did the "romantic" trip for 2 for our 10th anniversary where we ate junk and rode rides like we were kids again. Next fall starts the first of many "child centered" trips with our 3 darling daughters (future OSU cheerleaders).
We live in Broken Arrow now. Just wanted to say hi to all Okies out there!

okie here too! lived in midwest city, norman and edmond. husband is a missouri boy so here i am now!

boomer sooner!!

loribell>
we are flying from will rogers (okc)
Delta offers the nonstop flight to mco for 276 RT PP.
Happy New Year to all!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip on the r/t flight - didn't know about that! Makes WDW seem just that much closer.

Go Sooners at the Holiday Bowl tonight!
