DH and I are looking to relocate and a couple of opportunites have come up in the Lexington area.
The Doctor we have talked to lives in Winchester, but DH can pretty much go any where in Kentucky he wants too. Right now we are thinking Lexington area because DH and my Dad have both been there and liked it.

What I was wondering is about the area (suburbs) and what they are like. I am looking for a place that has good schools, good sense of community, safe neighborhoods, and good shopping options (like good grocery stores, clothing stores, malls, etc.) that are not far away from the good neighborhoods.

I am looking for the point of view from people who live there because that is the best imput! :) DH and I are probably going to come look around in the next month or two to scout out locations.

Thanks!

I lived in Lexington for 10 years, and a good friend of mine just moved from Lexington to Florida last week. I visited her there in April.

I would think your happiness in Lexington would depend on where you're from and what you're used to. Lexington is really a pretty small town, but it has a big town attitude. Most of the people living there are natives and have a very high opinion of Lexington. For that reason, the town tends to be sort of "cliquey." It's hard to explain. I wasn't happy there. There are no activities to mention except horse racing in April and October. The only other thing the town has to offer is Wildcat Basketball, and you will hear of little else during college basketball season. Trust me, you will grow to destest hearing about those stupid Wildcats. But the reason they're so big there is because there's *nothing else*!!! If you're used to a big city, you're going to be disappointed by Lexington. The shopping isn't great. It was interesting to see it again in April after being gone for 4 years. Streets that I remembered as being "big and cutting edge" (for Lexington) now looked small and run down to me.

There are some good restaurants there. After living there for 10 years I know where they all are. If you do end up moving there, PM me and I'll give you some more info.

Good luck!

DVCajun-Thanks for your opinion! We really do not like the big city feel. I am from Iowa and live in an area that is growing and getting a lot of the big chain type stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Old Navy, And lots of chain restaurants. The mall is also pretty nice. We lived South east of Detroit and I hated it! Too big city for me (and we lived in a burb.)

Size wise it sounds like something we might be interested in. Shopping wise I guess I will have to see what is there! LOL!

Anyone have any more information? Thanks!

Wow! Did you tell me that before? I tend to forget things in my old age.

I grew up outside of Louisville, about 2 hours away from Lexington, but have visited there a lot. Lexington is a city probably about the size of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is the home of the University of Kentucky and their famed Wildcat basketball team (what DVCCajun talked about). Aside from the university, about the only other thing that is big in Lexington are the beautiful horse farms surrounding the city (that famous Kentucky Bluegrass, you know). There is even the Kentucky Horse Park nearby, where you can learn anything you want about horses.

That's about all I can tell you. Good luck in your search!

Deb-Probably not! :D We have lived in MI for the last 4 years and just recently moved back to the QCA while DH finishes up some tests (schooling.) I lived here for 11 years prior to moving to MI though. I love the area here, but there are so many Chiropractors that it would be hard to start new office. And there are not many other options available around here. :)

From my research so far Lexington sounds like an area we would like. I will be able to tell from seeing it whether or not I could live there. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on Detroit area that it was not for me! :)
