Anyone from Cary NC?

The funny thing is, to get DS to school I pass a different hs than the one dd attends!

Sad, isn't it? You know, everyone picks on Johnston Co, but they really seem to have their act together there. The western part of the county is one of the fastest growing areas in the state and Cleveland ES was the 2nd best ES in the state a few years ago (might still be).

Hello! I work in Cary, NC, but live in Selma. I wouldn't recommend Smithfield or Selma, but the Clayton area of Johnston County is pretty nice. Good schools, great housing prices and it would only be about a 1/2 hr drive to/from Cary.

One of our neighbors is a police officer in Clayton and he says they really don't have much trouble. Mostly just write tickets and respond to accidents for the most part.

If you choose to look at Clayton check out the Flowers Plantation area and also Riverwood area. All three (Elem, Middle and High) of the schools in the Riverwood area are relatively close and nice from what I can tell. The policeman's wife is a Spec Ed teacher at Middle School.

Good luck whatever you decide!

So how do you accomodate this when you have several kids (i have 3) as far was when to go on vacation? I wouldn;t mind going to a YR school so we could go to Disney off season, but what do you do if your kids are on different schedules? Thanks

All students are out this year 2 weeks for Christmas and the week of July 4th. Other than that, track 4 shares the week of Easter off with traditional and 3 additional weeks in the summer. Tracks 1 and 3 share 3 summers weeks off with traditional and track 2 shares 1 week. I know it sounds complicated.

My DS11 was assigned to a traditional MS, so we had to apply for a transfer to a YR. If we had not been granted the transfer, then we would have needed to change tracks for our other 2 children.

Probably even less now that that darned by pass has re-routed traffic over to the Cleveland area.

That area from 70 to Percy Flowers store is really growing.

Have you considered Raleigh? I live in NW Raleigh and LOVE it. I've lived in Raleigh for the past 22 years, and have basically grown up here. I went to middle, high school and college here. Raleigh tends to be a bit more affordable than Cary, and def less restrictions on what you can/can't have. Some of the covenants in Cary are pretty strict..including # of pets you can own and how long you can keep your garage door open. (I'm not kidding).
Schools are part of Wake County, so you do have the flux of changing schools from traditional to year round, but I think that will settle down shortly (so I hope). My DD has been in year round for past 3 yrs and it works well for us.
Neigborhoods in NW Raleigh are very nice and range in age from very new to about 25 or so years old. Older homes have a bit more land than the newer ones. I didn't catch if you were from up North, but if you are you will fit right in as a lot of people are from up North living down here.
A great place to look for homes is the York Simpson Underwood website. Look for homes in the Brier Creek, Sycamore Creek, Leesville, Baileywick Elem areas. Those are all surrounded by great neighborhoods that vary in price range.

Thanks for all the replies.

We live in a community now in NY that is very restrictive (not as far as how long you can keep the garge foor open though! ) so that wouldn't be too much of a change for us.

Just concerned about the schools....

Thanks again!
