Anyone for the Western cruise 4/9/05???

My DH is tired of me talking about the excursions. I will also have to do some research this evening. He said he doesn't care anything about going to a beach. Well, that helps a lot :confused3

Don't waste your time trying to book your excursions this morning!! I called and she said we were 91 days from our vacations :(

So must call tomorrow! :earseek:

Hello all!

Re: Capt Bryan - I remember a post awhile back on the DIS about how disappointed some people were about using them - Too hot while waiting, didn't feel too safe with their young kids, etc - Some others chimed in as well - Lots of people recommended Capt Marvins -

Disneydreamer - That fury caterman sail sounds great! I think I am going to start to look into that -

Can't believe we are getting so close! I remember when my timer read 435 days! (I know, my timer is gone - I have to check into the thread to see how many days are left!)

Karen

Thanks for the input about Capt. Bryan's. I was worried about how safe I would feel with the baby.

I really want to do something in Grand Cayman. We are bringing a friend of my dd's with us. I think she should get off the ship and explore....she may never get back to GC. I have been looking at excursions AGAIN, I am really thinking about Captain Marvins. I was thinking that the short trip sounded good. I don't want to be gone all day and I like the thought of it being earlier in the AM than the 1/2 day trip. Has anyone made up their mind on Captain Marvin's yet?? It will be hard to book this on my own. It is really out of my comfort zone!!!!!! :earseek: We booked through DCL last time and it was really expensive but I felt safe! I was on a double decker catamaran, didn't feel like I was going to throw up! That is something else to think about. My dh & I get seasick really easily. Does anyone know what size boat they take out to snorkel???

My dh would rather stay on the ship. He wants to see if we can spend NO $$ while we are gone! :rotfl:
That is really going to happen!!

Later.............Hope

Hope,

Regarding your DH - I think I would spend MORE money if I STAYED on the ship!

I too would be interested in if anyone knows how big the boat is that Capt Marvins use - We will probably just do a short trip because of the age of child (6) -

Karen

That is true~~ I probably would spend more being on the ship. There isn't much difference in the amout of time if you do a short trip vs 1/2 day trip. I think it was only 30 minutes. I liked the sound of the short trip because if left around 8 AM instead of 10 AM. I emailed Captain Marvins to see how big his boats were and how many can his boats hold. When they get back to me, I'll let every one know!

So, as of now we are only booking one excursion through DCL. I am still trying to decide if we want to do the Fury Catamran thing in Cozumel. It sounds like a party boat. My kids wouldn't be interested in it. I would hate to leave them on the ship for that long. I don't know why. I know they are safe.

Those who have cruised before, have you done excursions without your kids and how long were your excursions??

Hope

Hi all!

I have also been thinking about excursions. This is only our 2nd cruise, so I am not sure about booking outside of DCL.

We definately want to do go to Stingray city, but we also would want to do an island tour so my mom can enjoy herself (she won't get in the water with the stingrays), so I was thinking about the combination Island Tour and Stingray excursion thru DCL. I don't think we would have enough time to book them separately.

 One more dilema with our GC excursion. My 11 yr old dd just came in and informed me that she was not going on the stingray excursion because she hates fish :fish: She freaked out the last time we went and spent most of the time on the boat. I would really like to take her friend out there. Should I not worry about it and just let her sit on the boat or make her stay in the lab while I take her friend on the excursion :rolleyes1 Since we are thinking about usind Captain Marvin's it is only $20 for her to go. But she won't get in the water anywhere!! princess: I NEED A VACATION :boat:
Better yet, I need to not worry about it and do what I want!! :cool1:

Don't call today to book your excursions!! We are considered a group booking and they don't work on the weekends. So, we have to call tomorrow, Monday, Morning.

:earseek:

That is good, gives us one more day to decide!!!

Okay, besides being an obsessive complusive planner  I am the only one in this group that doesn't have a life :rolleyes1 Apparently, I am on this board way too much. :earseek:

Guess what?? I finally narrowed down my excursion for Grand Cayman! We are going to do the Seaworld Explorer Semi Submariner trip. It is very short. That way, my princess: dd won't have to touch any fish, but she can look at them! :fish:

Cozumel we are still going to Paradise Beach for cost reasons...dh's idea, not mine! :)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Apparently you are since you aren't on the boards :bored:

Is Paradise Beach a DCL excursion or do you book in on your own? I still have no idea what to do in Cozumel.

Thanks.

Yvette :D

it is on your own. About a $15 cab ride. It is suppose to be a beautiful beach. I wanted to take the kids to a beach and still be back on the ship by 3:30. The dd's want to do an activity in the lab at 4 (from the past navigators). So, I thought that would be our best bet.

My parents are going to check it out when they go at the end of the month. I'll let you know what they say. I am not one that likes to book things on my own.

Hi All

Thanks for the info on Captn Bryans-- and the link. I think I have ruled them out. I am up for Capn Martins or Nativeway --not sure which right now though....

As for the fury catamaran in Cozumel -- I was already to book it, then I saw from Hope's post we cant til tomorrow. The funny thing is, my DH now says he wants to rent a Jeep for the day in Cozumel! So I have no idea what to do now -- and looking at the description-- it does sound a bit like a party boat -- maybe not the best for my three kids.

BTW, thanks for all the help on the hairbraiding tips----I guess I will be seeing you in the lineup at 5:30!

As far as the hair braiding, what about waiting to we get to one of the ports?Don't they do it cheaper right on the beach? When we were on the Magic last March we got everyone done at St. Martin. It was much cheaper than the boat.
Just my 2 cents!
Oh I wonder if my little Grace will want her hair done?! She does everything the big sisters do!! She's little blondie!

I know that a girl got hers done in GC. I don't know how much it cost or where she got it done. For me it is just easier to have them do it on a day at sea. It also gives them something else to do that day. Remember, if you get your daughter's hair braided they reccomend that you sleep with a bandana around your braids to keep them looking good. At least that what the ladies on Castaway Cay told us. I am taking some this year.

Captain Marvin's emailed me back this AM. She said they are still open for April 12. She said their boats range from 30 - 45 feet and hold 16 - 45 people. I guess we aren't doing the stingray trip this year. I booked the Semi Submarine trip this time. It is at 8:10 in the AM and last about 1 1/2 hours. So, if anyone wants to use Captain Marvins, they have the date open.

Hope

I had been so busy this past week and missed reading these boards. :guilty: I just sent my DH and DD's 16 and 14 away for the weekend on a youth retreat. So me and DD 9 get the computers :D .

Well I booked the stringray excursion through Captain Marvins. We emailed back and forth a few times and I felt more comfortable with them.

We really want to snorkel in Cozumel and don't know which one to book. I thought about the Fury Catamaran but wasn't sure if was too much of a "party" atmosphere. Does any one know?

Hope: McKenzie is just now going through her email as I type this. Your daughter is absolutely adorable princess: We couldn't get the second picture to open.

Happy planning!!!!

I got my confirmations in the mail for the two DCL excursions that I booked Monday. It makes it seem so real and close!

Sara knows she is adorable!! We are getting ready to go to a Varsity girls basketball game. Her gymnatics team is performing at the halftime show.
She is so excited. Tell McKenzie she will write back to her tomorrow. I didn't tell her she had an email. She has a friend spending the night tonight.

My mom and dad are heading back from Michigan today. They got stuck in traffic south of Louisville.......what should have taken 1/2 took over two hours!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
