Hello,
Another site I'm thinking about visiting but I'm not sure if it is worth it :earseek: Any reviews on gatorland - I'm not a big alli fan but my kids may get a kick out of it especially my son. What do you think? :grouphug:

Thats a great ? i was also wondering the same and how far from disney its located. I was not planning on renting a car for the whole week,

I went there YEARS ago and really enjoyed it as a kid. I am planning a trip in July and we are allowing a day for a trip to gator land. I think my DS will really enjoy it.

Hi my Ds8 Ds10 and Ds12 all really enjoyed gatorland especially the shows

On our trip to Orlando last June, on the last day, no one could agree on what to do. DS14 decided he didn't like WDW (argggh! thus why I took DS11 back later in the year!). Anyway, we ended up going to Gatorland, and both the boys really enjoyed it. Not something to do too ofen, but at least for us it was a nice day.

I went two years ago with my mother, DDs - 9 and DS 3. We all loved it. The highlight was feeding hotdogs to the gators. It was also a nice change of pace from the Disney parks!

We go every 2 or 3 years to Gatorland. My boys(11 , 12 and 45 ;) ) really like it and I think it's fun too. It's like an old time Florida type attraction.Nothing fancy smchancy about it!

It's a great place to stroll around ,relax and take in the critters.

Ok, I don't like to disagree with the majority (just against my nature!), but we went to Gatorland about 8 years ago, (so I don't know how much has changed since then) when my DD was 7 and DS was 3. Well, I was not thrilled with the place, but what was I expecting!! It's a park FULL of alligators! So to me and my daughter, it was pretty gross and slimy and only worth about an hour of time (I still get the willies when I watch the video.) BUT, my DS, 3 yrs old at the time, and my DH were fascinated with it. We did only spend about 3-4 hours there, and I don't think we'll ever go back. Well, at least DD and I won't! ;)

So perhaps it's a good half-day thing to do if you have boys of all ages! :confused3

We (myself and 2 boys) loved Gatorland. We spent most of a day there and really took advantage of all they had to offer. The reptile show is a good laugh, not exactly a polished show, but good. The alligator feeding was great, as was the alligator wrestling. For $15.00, we got pictures of the boys wrestling (actually just sitting on) and alligator. Love those pictures. They place the kids hands on the alligators mouth, covering the duck tape. It was also fun trying the alligator nuggets. There are times you could stare at what you think is a fake gator for a very long time and suddenly see it open its eyes. Went during a slow time and as soon as they opened for the day, so we got to see them cleaning and get to listen to a lot of stories behind some of the animals. I highly recommend doing Gatorland. A nice relaxing day. It's on our list of do again, but haven't had time to get there.

As a Floridian, maybe it's because gators aren't "that" exciting, but IMHO...SKIP IT! I think it's overpriced to look at a bunch of gators, even if they do have "shows" How long can you do that really? :confused3 Frankly, I can't believe that Gatorland has survived as long as it has, but I guess enough people find them exciting. I just don't get it.

We went a couple years ago and it was a cute break from everything else - I could definately see why little boys would like it...

We fed the gators the hot dogs, walked around and was in awe of how big some of them were...

and we were there for feeding time for the cute little rainbow birds... we took little cups of nectar into their cage and they landed all over us to get the nectar - it made for some great photos...

If you want a change and try something different why not :)

Not sure how far it is from Disney... sorry.

Have fun!
Laura

It's been awhile since I was there, so please take that into consideration. Although, I found the alligators very interesting, I was a nervous wreck by the time I left there. First of all, there were wasp nests everywhere. Since a good deal of the place is covered wooden walkways, the wasps built nest along the inner top of the walkways. I am allergic to wasps, bees, etc. They were all over the place. Yuck!

We watched a show where this guy fed alligators pieces of raw chicken by hand. He told the audience that you can't make friends with an alligator. Anything that hits the water is food. For that reason, he wore a belt with a big chain just in case an alligator would get hold of his hand or arm. He had no sooner told us this, than these people sat the little kids on the railing of the walkways over the water with the alligators. I couldn't stand it. We ended up leaving and I haven't been back since.

Good lord--gatorland! I have not thought about that place in years. Had some good memories there with my grandparents when i was little. I have not been there in a good 18 years....yup, that long.....but I would definetly take the kids. We actually plan on taking our son when we go to Florida. He would love it. So just GO FOR IT!! :teeth:
