I just found non-stop flights from SFO to MCO for the same price as a one stop flight on Southwest. Since its a fairly new airline I was just wondering if anyone had good/bad feedback?

Their website advertises movies, TV and wifi access but of course the "nominal or no fee" really doesn't tell me how much it would cost for the extras.

We are really considering it since it would shorten our travel day (without having to land and change planes) and since the price is the same (right now - of course SW could have a price drop).

Thanks in advance.

Just b/c the Search function is currently disabled (or at least the info is still up, though it does say it was supposed to be finished at 11pm eastern and it's nearly 11pm pacific)...:) There have been a few threads on this since they announced the MCO route. :)

Since I seem to be one of the few who has flown them, I'll talk to ya.

Lovely planes, lovely lighting, lovely cushy seats with very cool hard plastic backs to the seats (as in, the back of the seat, not the seatback you rest on). The lighting really makes it pleasant.

Their in flight entertainment system is pretty awesome. There are free movies, TV shows, and music, along with free videogames. There are also paid things of that nature (though I'm not sure any of the music requires a fee) but I haven't a clue what those cost. Haven't tried wifi either, b/c I just don't need to email anyone that badly, LOL.

They had a nice cheese tray thing that was about $8 on the flight from LAX to SEA last October. You order it through their system (you can swipe the card either on the remote control or directly under the TV itself, but that was a pain in the rear, frankly.

Some people who fly them like to close their eyes as they pass through 1st class, to keep themselves from upgrading to that section b/c it looks so incredibly cozy and cushy. I'm one of them.

I've encountered two rude flight attendants, but that's about par for the course in my experience.

They do charge even for the first checked bag, which I'm normally not in favor of, but I'd rather fly them and pay for the bag than fly another airline, if the price is nice.

Their airmiles DO expire, though recently they added a few ways to keep them unexpired so maybe they'll totally change their minds later...and they do NOT offer a credit or refund if the flight cost goes down on the nonrefundable fares. So if you like the price and get it, STOP LOOKING. Don't torture yourself.

First time I flew them in Nov '08, SEA to SAN and back (with a flight number change in SFO (though the same aircraft, even though we had to all disembark and then reboard)), weather in SFO was delaying our start in SEA. So they called it David Bowie day, and they had a trivia game about him, and they played his music in the gate area. Since he's one of my fave singers, it was very nice. And if I'd played instead of my friend, I could have one free roundtrip tickets b/c I totally knew the answer to their big bonus question...but I wasn't playing. :headache: Anyway, they are fun. :)

Came so close to remembering everything! Editing to add...they have a video that you watch for the safety spiel, instead of watching the FAs. It's very funny. Look out for the bull and bullfighter.

Yes I did it and I liked it a lot. I had a fly there but 3 years back and lot of things have changed now. I just came to know that they are focusing more on the cabin crew selection.

Thanks,
Jeniffer

Thanks! I'm going to see if I can see what their on time status is. Since there is only one flight per day I'm a little worried about what we would do if they had to cancel that flight.

I have flown them twice also (from SFO to SNA) and had a good experience. Very nice airline!
We are also flying to Orlando Thanksgiving week and we're considering Virgin America. Neither SW or VA have released flights for those dates yet, but going from what they have released now I'm assuming SW will be cheaper (especially when you factor in the luggage). However, I think having the non-stop flight AND TV's in the seat outweighs that. (we will have 3 kids with us).
But like you stated I'm a little worried about them only having one flight a day. :confused3 What if there are weather issues and the flights get canceled? :confused3

I just booked a friend and their mom and they LOVED it! The money they saved made them happy too!

Virgin America is nice. Definitely a cut above Southwest. I fly SAN - SFO a lot and of the airlines which serve that route (United, Southwest, Alaska and Virgin America) VA is my favorite. No issues with cabin crew, and the first class seating is nicer than most.

IMO Virgin America is teh best airline in existence right now.
Since they began in 2008 I have flown them from IAD-LAX 9 times.
