Anyone flown with United Airlines to Washington Dulles?

Hi, Has anyone flown with United Airlines from London Heathrow to Washington, Dulles International Airport and down to MCO? What are the flights like? What is Dulles Airport like? Is It Big? Any good for food/shopping?

We did it in 2004 en route to Orlando, on the way back we stopped off in DC for 3 nights and loved it.

Don't remember much about the airport to be honest as we just went to our next gate but it is large.

There were no seat back TV's then but most of the airlines have them now.

we went,to san francisco,with united in oct last year,then flew back to florida,for 10 nights.on our way home,the route was via washington,to heathrow.
i like flying united,as i find their seats,quite roomy,which makes a difference to the journey.they do have seat back tv's & you can choose your seats online,at no charge.me & my grandaughter,had 3 seats,between the 2 of us!
can't really recall,that much about the airport,as we didn't have an awful lot of time,between connections,so can't help there,but united are my 1st choice of airline,whenever we go to america.

Did this route two years ago and would be very happy to do so again. Dulles is big but i didnt find it a problem at all. we got cases first, then went to immigaration. The immigration hall was specifically for connecting flights hence there was 2 people in front of us, as soon as we we were done our cases were taken back off us at the next bit, so easy and efficient. i had heard rumours that i would need to cart cases to another check in and with the size of the airport i was really worried about time, total waste of a panic. I remember there was a smoking room which was so handy for me, i saw a newsagents style shop and got myself some pink lemonade and a national enquirer (so american so i couldnt resist). we already had out boarding cards for the second leg as we had been issued them at heathrow so there was no problem with that.
trying to think what else was there but struggling. as far as united go i liked them more than virgin by a long way, the seats were comfier, i did get a seat back tv, staff were excellent, very very happy with them.

We just used this route last month and I just wanted to say that we agree with fizz.

I don't think we had seat back tv's on the flight down from Dulles to Orlando, but the flight is relatively short so it wasn't a problem.

I found Dulles airport really easy to find my way around and there were plenty of snack locations around for sure.

The best thing about Dulles airport for me is that they have a Wendys in the terminal where United fly from. I can get my classic American burger fix before I even reach Orlando!

Thanks for the useful info. We are going to fly into NY for four nights, train down to Orlando then fly home from Orlando. If we book this direct flights, with Virgin for 5 of us, it comes to £2600. With United, stopping at Dullas going and Chicago on the way back, the flights are £1650. Dont like the idea of the lengthened travel time, but to save a grand seriously considering it.
