Anyone flown Allegiant Air?

I have used them twice to fly from Newport News to Sanford when my mom lived about 30 min from Sanford. I love flying out of the smaller airports and Sanford is a whole lot better to nagivate than MCO.. BUT they do nickle and dime you to death. I didnt pay for seats and me and my son did sit together but we were in the back of the plane (no big deal).. The plane was clean and the staff was friendly. The first time I flew (they just started flying out of PHF) I bought the insurance to have my flight changed because my mom had surgery.. Well I changed my flight three times and not once did I have a problem (just paid the difference in cost- not the change fee)..

I was on their website this afternoon, looking at their weather policy. What I was looking for (and couldn't find, or didn't see) is what happens when they have to change or cancel a flight due to weather. Do they give you the option to "credit" your account with a flight to use at a later time in those instances? I ask because we leave December 29th and I want to have a backup plan in case the weather is dicey. If it is, we'll just drive to FL and leave a few days earlier. I just don't want to lose the money we paid to fly if the weather keeps it from happening. Because having them move us to another flight days later does NOT work for us.

Does Allegient, like Spirit, allow you to have an under the seat "personal item" for free? Spirit will let you have a good sized bag under the seat as long as it fits, my daughter and I took two large backpacks stuffed with stuff for under the seat plus paid for one checked bag and we managed to go to Florida for five days.

This was my suggestion, and it sounds like that is the case. Get a backpack and stuff it with items that you can't easily replace or will be the most expensive to replace. If you can't get a change of clothes for each day squeezed in there, you can do laundry. I did this on my 13 day trip last month, and the facilities on site (at Pop Century anyway) are great. It only took an hour, and it was an hour I was willing to give up so I only had to carry 7 days worth of clothes instead of 13.

We flew Allegiant last year for spring break. We paid to sit together and we paid for one checked bag. We all brought our normal backpacks (by "normal" I mean like a regular old Jansport or LL Bean backpack like a kid would take to school - not a huge hiking backpack or anything) as our personal item and it was fine.

Even with the extra expenses, it was still far less expensive than driving to the "big city" and flying on Delta or SW.


This year, SW was cheaper because we had miles ... so we are flying them. I would have no problem flying Allegiant again though - everything was fine.

We have flown them twice. For 50 bucks can't beat it. We rented a car once for Disney and did Tampa with a car service for a cruise. Worked great.

My aunt flies with them twice a year. Got nervous only once when the pilots came on board dressed in their leather jackets, helmets, goggles and white scarf. Just kidding.

She is happy with them.

Right now they are flying MD 80s and are in the process of switching over to airbus 319s. Better fuel economy and able to operate on shorter runways.

Did it from Mid-America St. Louis Airport (the secondary airport that is co-located with Scott Air Force Base, Illinois) on a trip to Vegas back in 2007.

As for the flight, itself -- no problem. If you're thinking about a lot of luggage, I would suggest going to your neighborood "FedEx Office" store (former Kinko's) and get a quote for FedEx Ground to your resort.

You might be surprised at the savings...

Sounds like we made the right choice! Can't wait, just gotta find a good cheap place to stay. We usually have enough points from Choice Hotels to stay for free, but this year we used most of them in September and I haven't been traveling enough lately to build up more. I haven't had to pay regular rate for a hotel in years.

Yes I would double up on clothing. Wear jeans nd biggest shoes. Wear a tank with a shirt over it. And a sweatshirt. Purchase all of your toiletries once u get there. Fewer your items and wash at hotel if u have to.
